The
Colorado Ranger Horse
The
Rangerbred horse
The Rangerbred horse is registered with the COLORADO
RANGER HORSE ASSOCIATION, INC. -the oldest of the western
horse breed registries still in existence in the United
States. To meet the requirements for registration with
the CRHA, a horse MUST SHOW A DIRECT DESCENT from one
of the two foundation stallions 'MAX #2' and/or 'PATCHES
#1'.
The CRHA is NOT A COLOR REGISTRY. The founder wisely
decided that a horse's ability has nothing to do with
his hide. Because of this, Rangerbreds come in a wide
variety of color patterns: from solid bays, classic
blacks, grays and roans all the way to colorful blankets
and vivid tri-colored leopards. The Rangerbred may be
outcrossed on horses of other recognized breed registries
including, Jockey Club, Quarter Horse, Appaloosa (USA,
Canadian & Foreign), The Arab Horse Club, ARA-APP
and the ICAA (with certain reservations).

Sir
Peter Is Odds On Favourite With Working Horses
At
this years Grand National the winners will be
the working horses of some of the worlds poorest
people, thanks to the generosity of Sir Peter OSullevan.
At Aintree the veteran race commentator will be donating
£25,000 to the Brooke Hospital for Animals, to
support its tireless work giving free veterinary care
to working equines in Egypt, Jordan, India and Pakistan.
|
Sir
Peter, a Brooke Hospital patron who is renowned for his devotion
to horses, raised the money by organising a charity lunch. I
have been accumulating debt to the horse for some 80 years and
the Brooke is the most marvellous means of helping me to discharge
it, he said. It is an incomparable hands on organisation
whose constant work merits infinitely wider recognition.
His much-needed donation comes after a dramatic year for the
Brooke, which has pushed its teams of mobile equine hospitals
to the limits. Since March 2001 Brooke veterinary teams in Pakistan
have treated thousands of exhausted, sick and starving horses
and donkeys owned by refugees fleeing Afghanistan, often working
round the clock to help up to 300 animals a day. In January
last year Brooke emergency units treated working equines injured
in the Gujarat earthquake and distributed life-saving fodder
to many more.

High Valley Z convincing winner TNT Sires of the World 2001/2002
In
the blood-curdling finals of the TNT Sires of the World 2001/2002
at Indoor Brabant AK High Valley Z and Jos Lansink left the
rest of the field far behind. This international showjumping
competition for licensed stallions is an initiative of Léon
Melchior, owner of the Belgian studfarm Zangersheide and Jos
Lansink's employer.
That Zangersheide's rider won this competition is not so surprising
by itself; after all, the same combination had also won last
year. But that the Zangersheide-champion managed to win this
competition so far ahead of the rest of the field so far behind
is a novelty.

The
State of Horse Businesses
courtesy of Richard Bacon
It
has long been commented that horses and money do not fit comfortably
together. This wisdom has been assumed to apply equally to business
and privately owned horses. This article highlights recent research
into the financial performance of a range of UK equine enterprises.
We are standing in a period of economic prosperity and stability
unparalleled in recent UK history. There is an increased awareness
of the importance of exercise, accompanied by the spending power
to pursue it in an enjoyable way. This bodes well for those
businesses that possess the management skills to capitalise
on the opportunities. But to compete in this new era, the service
offering has to be right. All consumers are becoming more discerning,
even the young. The best in the sector have seen new ways of
doing business; others need to catch up. This is a change more
dependent on attitude than money!

Draught Wins Open Jumper Championship

Albuquerque NM, New Mexicans, seeing the first Irish

when the Irish Draught Stallion O'Leary's Irish Diamond
won the Open Jumper Championship at the New Mexico State

|
|
The
King of Diamonds' Grandson won the championship in great form
by competing in four classes winning three. "Irish"
had one rail down in the four day competition. In his first
ever Open competition rider Rob Gage held off the challenge
of four horses in the jump off with a time six seconds faster
than the second place horse. In the final open class, a speed
class, Gage again had a clear round with a time too fast for
the other horses in the class.

Jubilee Access Week 2002
- highlighting the need for safer off road riding
24 May - 4 June 2002 |
The
British Horse Society's ACCESS Week will take place this year
in the week leading up to HM The Queen's Golden Jubilee: 25
May - 4 June. Jubilee Rides will take place all over the country
to celebrate the bridleway network and The BHS will be presenting
awards to local authorities and landowners who have addressed
the need of riders in the area of access and rights of way.
The aim of BHS Access Week is to highlight the need for more
off road riding for horse riders and carriage drivers. Today's
roads are becoming increasingly busy and dangerous. There are
an estimated 3000 accidents involving horses on the roads every
year, and The BHS is campaigning for measures to reduce that
number.
