Racing
goes Magnetic
Dubai
Thoroughbred Racing have had great success using the
Armadillo Magnetic Rug. Owners of the brilliant Dubaian
Gift, one of the fastest horses over 5 furlongs in the
country, Dubai Thoroughbred Racing have been thrilled
with the results.
Many
racehorses have cold backs and require walking around
or even lunging before the rider can mount. More still
come out of the stable stiff and it takes a few minutes
for the horse to ease. By using magnets, the horse does
not use up precious energy warming up. |
Magnets
applied directly to the problem area increase the circulation,
flush away the toxins and eliminate pain or muscle spasm.
Used for injuries to tendons, ligaments and bones magnets
can reduce healing time by up to 33%. They are also used
for chronic conditions like arthritis, and to reduce the
risk of injury by warming up and cooling down the muscles,
before and after exercise
Armadillo's
Magnetic Rug allows you to position the magnets exactly
where they are needed, enabling larger yards to purchase
only a few sizes of rug to cover all their horses. They
simply re-position the magnets for each horse's requirements.

New
British Standard for Wooden Saddle Trees
SYMMETRY
is the main feature of the new British Standard for
wooden saddle trees launched this week at the Walsall
Leather Museum.
The
idea for BS6635:2003 arose from a meeting called by
the Worshipful Company of Saddlers, involving remedial
saddler Kaye Humphries, the Society of Master Saddlers,
the Walsall Equestrian Society and BETA, together
with representatives of the veterinary profession
and the saddlery manufacturing and retail trades.
|
All
agreed that the symmetry of saddle trees should be emphasised
at every level from training to manufacture as an important
factor in producing a well-fitting saddle.
Walsall
tree makers took on the challenge of identifying the symmetry
criteria - what should be measured and how. And a prototype
measuring jig to test trees for symmetry was developed to
very demanding tolerances.
The
Saddlers' Company approached the British Standards Institute
(BSI) with a view of incorporating this information into
a new standard which has now been authorised and published.

Leisure
Riders Help Prove Worth Of Ex-Racehorses
SEIB
competition attracting widespread interest
More
than 300 entries have been registered for the celebrated
South Essex Insurance Brokers Racehorses to Riding Horses
competition, more than half of them in the unaffiliated
section.
"I
think this does prove a point," said organiser Nicolina
MacKenzie. "We have entries in all the affiliated disciplines,
but I question whether having so many unaffiliated registrations
doesn't prove the worth of ex-racehorses and make nonsense
of the idea that they are difficult.
"Leisure
riders dominate this area of competition and they are, after
all, are very discerning. Their time away from the day job
is very precious and even though many of them are good and
experienced riders, they are not going to spend their energies
in a pointless project."
"Racehorses
to Riding Horses" is open to horses affiliated to the
British Show Jumping Association, British Dressage, British
Eventing and the British Endurance Society as well as those
contesting recognised showing classes or unaffiliated competition
run by The British Riding Clubs, Pony Club, Permanent Show
Organisers Association or approved centre.

Tour Unravels Feeding Confusion
WANT
to know the latest information about feeding your horse
but worried that it will leave you even more confused?
Don't

in processing straights like Speedi-Beet, while Nicola will
lift the lid on the feed bin providing advice on how to
feed horses in a way that suits their digestive system.

Absorbine
Bug Defence Program
Most
of us look forward to summer - long hacks down leafy
lanes and horses basking in grassy fields and warm sunshine
- but no sooner does the weather improve than out come
the bugs! Flies are particularly attracted to you and
a cloud of insects seems to follow you everywhere, spoiling
the idyllic dream. You need a proper bug defence program
from Absorbine!
Supershield Green® is an all-natural spray that
provides a safe and effective alternative to chemical
fly spray. It conditions the skin and coat while soothing
insect bites and minor skin irritations. The fresh herbal
scent is derived from the list of natural ingredients
including citronella, eucalyptus, pennyroyal, witch
hazel, tea tree, lavender, pine needle, aloe and lanolin.
Public concerns about "chemicals" in products
have promoted the development and introduction of fly
sprays using only "natural" ingredients (usually
herbs) and Supershield Green contains the essential
herbs that are reputed to have repellent action. Although
herbal fly sprays should not be expected to last as
long as chemical formulations, tests have proved efficacy
for up to six hours.

Will Not Participate in FEI World Pairs Driving
Championship
Gladstone,
NJJune 30, 2003The United States will
not send a team to compete in the 2003 World Pairs
Driving Championship, to be held in Jardy, France.
The
Executive Committee-Subcommittees and officers of
both the United States Equestrian Team (USET) and
USA Equestrian (USAE) approved the decision of the
Driving Selectors to not field a team for this years
championship.
The Selectors gave consideration to placings at
Selection Trials, reviewing competitive records
in head to head competitions among long listed drivers
(giving most emphasis to recent performances and
scores) and giving consideration to the previous
international experience of driver/horse combinations
and the prospect that the combinations will contribute
to winning a team medal and/or an individual medal.

that should give them an even better return on their sponsorship

Marilyn
Little Wins $50,000 Budweiser Grandprix of Lake Placid To
Close 34th Annual Lake Placid Horse Show
Lake Placid, NYJune 29, 2003Marilyn Little of
Frederick, MD rode Hertel Landman to victory in the $50,000
Budweiser Grandprix of Lake Placid for the Whitney Perpetual
Challenge Trophy to close the 34th annual Lake Placid Horse
Show.
Little,
21, gained her seventh Grandprix win with two fault-free
rides and a jump-off time of 42.832 seconds. Little, who
graduated Magna Cum Laude from Wake Forest University on
May 19, was one of seven entries from the starting field
of 29 to reach the jump-off by riding without penalty over
the 13-jump first-round course designed by 1996 Atlanta
Olympic course designer Linda Allen.
The
fifth to try the eight-jump, jump-off course at the North
Elba Showgrounds, Little rode Hertel Landman, owned by her
familys Raylyn Farms of Frederick, MD, with daring.
Her time moved her ahead of two-time American Grandprix
Association (AGA) Rider of the Year McLain Ward of Brewster,
NY who wound up second with a time of 43.563 seconds on
Hurricane and Sydney Olympic veteran Margie Goldstein Engle
of Wellington, FL who placed third with a time of 44.197
seconds on Hidden Creeks Perin. The jump-off featured
an unusual format where faults were converted to penalty
seconds which allowed riders with a rail down to try make
up the additional time and still have a chance to win.

Jumping - Kerrygold Grand Prix League - Breen Wins
Charleville
A
TECHNICAL course at Charleville Showgrounds proved
too difficult for most of the 16 Grand Prix entrants
today (Sunday), with the result that only Shane Breen
on <Luandra> managed a clear first round.
However,
under Grand Prix rules, 25 per cent of the first-round
runners-up were allowed to compete in the second round.
This, however, led to a two-rider contest between
Tipperary's Breen and Limerick's Joan Green, each
of whom now had two horses in the second round.
But
it was Breen who was the best of the day, incurring
just four faults in the second time out, to take the
Grand Prix title on <Luandra>, with Joan Green
on Eileen Mulconroy's <Sceal Eile> failing to
catch Breen on time, though she managed a clear second
round.
The
remaining places in the jump-off were shared by the
two riders, with Green taking Third and Breen Fourth.

Conditioning
and Stretching for the Rider
Copyright
Scot Hansen 2003, www.horsethink.com
As
we enter into the summer season, the desire to ride outside
increases as the days get longer and the sun shines warmer.
No matter where you are, summer will probably give you the
itch to increase your riding. Along with this
increase in riding will be an increase in the demands placed
on the muscles used by you and your horse.
Several
things take place during this time of increased activity.
The most common is that we tend to ride more often and to
take longer rides. This extra demand on you and your horse
can add up to sore muscles for both of you. How do we deal
with this? There is nothing that quite works the riding
muscles like riding itself; however, there are a few
things that we can do for ourselves that will help prepare
us so that we can minimize injury and discomfort. And the
most important of these is stretching.
Yes,
stretching can do a lot to loosen up the winter tightness
and to ensure that the muscles are able to accept the increase
in work as a friendly companion instead of feeling like
its an all out assault. While we dont use lots
of muscle strength when riding, we do use quite
a bit of muscle tone. One way to increase that tone is to
stretch, bend, and reach. The usual stretches for most sports
will be a good start, but then there are a few that we can
add that are more specific to our sport.
After
doing some of the more familiar stretches such as a toe
reach, side to side bend, cherry picker, hurdler stretch,
etc. we can add some of additional stretches from our riding
position.

Off And Extreme: Natural Horse Feed Supplements From Brookwick-Ward
Equine
specialist Brookwick Ward has launched two new complete
and natural balanced food supplements for horses - Show
Off and Extreme.
Show
Off and Extreme are complete and natural balanced food supplements
for horses to be used as part of a regular diet, Unlike
some feed additives which are administered solely to boost
performance and can lead to withdrawal symptoms, Show Off
and Extreme contain only natural vitamins and minerals and
are Food Standard Agency approved.
Show
Off is a vitamin boost for the show and performance horse.
Regular competition can take its toll on the animal while
the amount of traveling required between events can also
have a detrimental effect on the horse's feeding regime,
making it difficult to keep them interested in their food.
Show Off improves appetite, provides an energy boost for
competition and also helps improve skin condition leading
to healthier, shiny coats.
Extreme
is a horse food enhancer designed specifically for the racehorse.
It acts as an appetite stimulator and contains the natural
vitamins and minerals upon which racehorses depend. Extreme
helps improve a horse's work energy from high polyunsaturated
fat and following a strenuous workout, or race, speeds up
the recovery rate. Owners also find that with Extreme the
horse's eating habits improve along with improved coat and
skin condition.

Jumping - Kerrygold Grand Prix League - Rolestown
Sees First Courtney Win
LINDA
COURTNEY has been a consistent performer on the Kerrygold
Grand Prix League circuit this year, but today (Saturday)
saw her first 2003 victory, at Rolestown in Co. Dublin.
With
a substantial field of 34 starters, and beautiful
weather, nine riders and horses made it through to
the jump-off, with Linda and her own <Cavaleve>
showing everyone a clean pair of heels in a second-round
time of 35.72, just shading Harry Marshall on <Splendido>,
who came in fractions of a second slower.
There were only four double clears in today's competition,
and the winner and runner-up were well ahead of the
other double clears on time.Though the First and Second
places at Rolestown do not bring either Courtney or
Marshall into the Top Six in the Kerrygold Leaderboard,
they are now just a few points behind, with Linda
at Seventh and Harry at Eighth, showing 25 and 23
points respectively.
