Magnets:
Use, Don't Abuse!
Armadillo's
Founder Justin Hoon is an Equine Sports Therapist. He
has been using magnets as part of treatment for many
years.
'Using
Static magnets is like having a stretch or a warm-up.
They simply increase the circulation in the area you
put them. If an increase in circulation helps the condition
you are treating, then static magnets will help.'
'But Magnets are not a miracle cure.' Warns Justin 'If
an increase in circulation is bad, ie in the case of
open wounds, or even headaches, magnets should not be
used.'

Nine
Illegally Grazed Ponies Arrive at HorseWorld
HorseWorld
is urging all horse owners to ensure their animals are
being grazed on suitable land after 9 animals arrived
at their Welfare Yard in Whitchurch requiring immediate
attention. The ponies had all been illegally grazed
on land belonging to Wessex Water near Bath, and legal
ownership of the animals has now been passed to HorseWorld
after the owner failed to respond to a 14 day notice
served by Wessex Water. |
The
land where the ponies were kept is unsuitable for grazing,
and staff at Wessex Water had become very concerned for
the animals' welfare following the death of two foals, either
during or just after birth. On arrival at HorseWorld, it
became apparent that all of the animals had a very significant
worm burden, in addition to overgrown feet. Several of the
animals were underweight, and three have since been confirmed
as pregnant. Please

Under
Starter's Orders
With
the worst of the winter hopefully over, now is the ideal
time to consider how best to prepare your horse for the
working months ahead. Maintaining weight and condition through
this change in seasons can certainly be tricky - particularly
if there are other factors to into account, such as, if
your horse:
o
Has a tendency to be 'fizzy', o Is a 'fussy feeder', o Suffers
with bad digestion, o Is barley-intolerant, o Has poor coat
and/or coat condition
Despite
this diverse set of concerns and problems, simply supplying
your horse with the correct feed can help resolve all of
the conditions above as well as ensure that he keeps on
weight and condition.

Promoting
Racehorse Retraining
Oberon Equestrian www.oberon-equestrian.co.uk is pleased
to be supporting the 'Promoting Racehorse Retraining' scheme
in association with Equine Management and Training www.equine-training.co.uk
and Niagara Equissage www.equissage.co.uk
For the thousands of racehorses, some only three or four
years old, that come out of training each year the future
is uncertain and often bleak. There is much prejudice against
ex-racehorses which is caused I believe because of a few
horses that give the rest a bad name. Racehorses are individuals
the same as any other living animal. Many of them will be
very trainable for other jobs and go on to excel in eventing
or become quiet ladies hacks or dressage horses etc. There
are a few, of course, who because of injury or temperament
will not be suitable to retrain but this should not spoil
it for the rest who deserve a second chance at leading a
useful happy life.
