Thrills,
But No Spills, Scheduled For The Odyssey Arena
Theres
some nail-biting, edge-of-the-seat thrills in store
for audiences at the Belfast Indoor International
Horse Show - and will all be the fault of the Naprous
family.
Gerard, Daniel and Camilla will be presenting The
Devils Horsemen, a good-v-evil love story with
Latin dancing but all focused around thrilling and
dazzling stunt riding. The act has been especially
choreographed for the Belfast show, which opens a
four-day run at the Odyssey Arena on November 27.
Daniel, whose first work with movies was at
the age of 11, is currently working on location with
Brad Pitt and Lord of the Rings star Orlando Bloom
in the making of 'Troy', while all three Naprous family
members were involved in the stunt work for Tomb Raider
II.
Another act on the programme likely to develop into
a talking point is The Flying Frenchmen, who seem
to be able to jump anything within reason and have
been billed as human horses!

British
Horse Society poster advises 'Be Seen - Be Safe'
The
British Horse Society (BHS) is re-launching its 'Be
Seen - Be Safe' campaign with a poster that can be downloaded
from its website, encouraging horse riders and carriage
drivers to wear Hi-Viz gear when out on the roads. Wearing
Hi-Viz gear, luminous and fluorescent, can give vehicle
drivers a valuable extra three seconds 'reaction time'
that could save the lives of riders, carriage drivers,
and their horses*. |
The
A4 sized poster, available on the BHS website (www.bhs.org.uk),
can be downloaded and displayed in local shops, tack rooms,
feed merchants, riding schools and livery yards and will
provide tips on safer riding including the wearing of Hi-Viz
gear.
The
majority of horse owners work full-time to be able to afford
their animals and so have to exercise them either early
in the morning or late in the afternoon. With autumn bringing
shorter days this means riding out in the half-light and
riding a dark coloured horse in dark coloured clothing is
courting disaster.

Improve
your Horse or Ponies Health
Does
your horse suffer from Arthritis, Laminitis, Navicular Syndrome,
Fractures or Tendon Injuries?
Is your horse fatigued or recovering from illness?
Our products offer the following benefits without drugs:
" Aiding recovery from torn muscles, ligaments and
tendons, " Accelerating the healing of bone fractures,
" Reducing swelling, pain and bruising, " Helping
to restore hormonal imbalance and chronic fatigue, "
Improving circulation.
Major
Animal and Equine Treatment Centres have been using electromagnetic
pulsed devices on Horses and Ponies for many years with
great success. The cost and impracticability for horse owners
to be able to use these facilities, which obviously involves
horses and ponies being isolated and monitored, limits the
number of equines that are able to benefit from its tremendous
success. Our products now solve the problem!

O'Brien, riding the nine yr-old Clover Hill mare <Lismore
Clover>, watched in dismay as the English rider,
who was last man in, beat him with a time of 43.94

Pignon. Its a name to conjure with. For people

in a magical, almost unbelievable relationship between
man and horses.
This 34-years-old Frenchman has dazzled and astounded
audiences the world over with his displays and the
bond and trust he has built with the horses that make
up his life. And it all began with a filly saved from
the slaughterer.

will star at every performance during the four days
of the Belfast Indoor International Horse Show in
association with Envirocare which opens at the Odyssey
Arena on November 27.

The
120th National Horse Show Returns to Wellington
Wellington,
Florida October 20, 2003 The National Horse
Show, now in its 120th year, will return for the second
year in a row to The Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club in
Wellington, Florida from Wednesday, November 26, through
Sunday, November 30, 2003. Considered the most prestigious
horse show in the United States, this is only the second
time in its century-old history that The National will be

importantly, in an outdoor venue.
The
National was founded in 1883 by an august group of East
Coast businessmen and sportsmen with names such as Vanderbilt
and Morgan. Its directors and members formed the basis for
Louis Kellers First Social Register of 1887, and the
competition became the unofficial opening of the New York

SPILLERS
survey launched to help understandTying up in
Event horses assistance required
SPILLERS®
horse feeds Director of Science, Dr Pat Harris, in
collaboration with The University of Nottingham and with
the support of British Eventing, has launched a survey into
Tying up in Event horses. The survey, involving
event yards across the country, aims to uncover exactly
how problematic Tying up is in Event horses and to help
improve our understanding of the contributing factors in
these animals. The ultimate aim is to help improve the advice
given on how it may be prevented.
The
Equine Rhabdomyolysis Syndrome (ERS), a complicated and
debilitating condition, is commonly called Tying up although
many names have been used over the years including Azoturia,
Exertional Myopathy and Monday Morning Disease. It appears
to affect most, if not all, breeds of horse and at almost
any age. Further research into the condition is vital in
order to improve our understanding of how common it is,
what may trigger off an episode and how it can be managed
effectively.

Laura
Kraut Wins Jack Kelly Fair Play Award
Gladstone,
NJOctober 20, 2003Laura Kraut of Oconomowoc,
WI, a member of the 2003 U.S. Pan American Games Show
Jumping Team, was named as the recipient of the United
States Olympic Committees Jack Kelly Fair Play
Award. Established in 1985 to honor the late USOC
President John B. (Jack) Kelly Jr., the award is presented
to an athlete, coach or official for an outstanding
act of fair play or sportsmanship displayed during
the past year.
|
Sandra
Kelly presented the award that bears the name of her late
husband to Kraut during the opening session of the USOC
Board of Directors meeting at the Renaissance Cleveland
Hotel. In her introduction of the honoree, Kelly shared
Krauts recent experience at the Pan American Games
in the Dominican Republic, where her horse developed a slight
injury. Although not serious enough that the animal would
fail the veterinary inspection, there was a possibility
that its condition could impact the U.S. teams chances
to win the competition. Knowing that the USA needed a top
performance in order to qualify for the 2004 Olympic Games,
Kraut put her team first and stepped aside. Please

FEI
World Cup Jumping : The Flying Dutchman Does It In
Helsinki
Hollands
Eric Van der Vleuten claimed the first FEI World Cup
honours of the 2003/2004 season at Helsinki in Finland
today with a superb performance from Audis Jikke.
Last
to go in the 12-horse jump-off the Dutchman was almost
three-hundredths of a second faster than runner-up
Helena Weinberg from Germany riding Kasting Horses
Gavi while Frenchman Bruno Broucqsault slotted into
third with Dileme de Cephe.
|
Toni
Hassmann, winner at the Hartwall Arena in 2001 and again
last year, was firm favourite to make it a hat-trick following
victory in both Fridays Pre-Qualifier and Saturdays
Grand Prix with Meurers Le Patron but the German riders
luck ran out when Camirez B made just one mistake in todays
opening round.
Olympic
champions Jeroen Dubbeldam and De Sjiem were pathfinders
against the clock and set the target when clear in 46.31
seconds but Helena Weinberg immediately shaved almost three
seconds off that when, next into the ring, she galloped
through the finish with Kasting Horses Gavi in 43.39.

Light
as a Feather
The
Armadillo Airotec Saddle Pad is already well-known for
wicking the sweat away from the horse's back, as well
as being incredibly lightweight and shock absorbent.
But
designers Justin and Ally Hoon have gone even further,
completely re-thinking the design of shock absorbent
pads.
Justin
Hoon, Director of Armadillo has ridden all his life.
"In our experience, most of the problems that pads
created were due to excess sweating which can cause
rubbing. The horse's skin is much more sensitive than
humans. So our pad literally PUMPS the air and sweat
away, keeping the horse cool and comfortable."
Justin
continues "We have had some fantastic results.
Matt Ryan and Robert Le Mieux will not ride without
an Airotec. We are thrilled that our Saddle Pad is used
by so many top riders under seriously tough conditions."

Essential
Worming Diary Up For Grabs In A Store Near You
To
help raise awareness of the importance of worming at
key times of the year, pioneering animal health company
Intervet is running an in-store promotion offering a
free 2004 Panacur Equine Guard diary with the purchase
of two bottles of the wormer. |
The
diary features a copy of the company's 3 year worming plan
on the inside front cover, which is designed to make parasite
control easier for the horse owner. Reinforcing the point
that no one wormer will answer every parasite control need,
the 3 year worming plan gives a month-by-month and year-by-year
guide to which wormer to use through the winter months and
which wormer to choose for the summer grazing season. It
is based on Intervet's three worming brands - Panacur, Pyratape
P and Vectin - and gives easy to remember dates when horses
should be wormed.

will launch the start of the ILPH hard copy petition
at the British Equine Event due to be held at Stoneleigh
over the weekend of 1st and 2nd November.
Tim
says, "Every horse and pony should be put down
in its own country. It's wrong that any of them, whether
in mainland Europe or the UK, should have to travel
to a foreign abattoir hundreds, possibly thousands,
