SCOPE Auction Announces New Bidding Procedure

SCOPE, Ireland's elite auction, is introducing a new bidding procedure to enhance transparency and integrity for the benefit of local and international buyers. SCOPE has agreed this new bidding procedure with every vendor offering foals for sale at the next auction on 4 November.

According to Tom Reed, the managing director of SCOPE, "Every foal owner has agreed the minimum bid for a foal that will be accepted by the auctioneer is euro 3,000 (equivalent to approximately US$3,500 or £2,100). And at euro 3,000 the foal is 'on the market' and available for purchase. This new procedure is designed to be transparent and fair to all parties, and to get foals sold at prices fair to both buyers and sellers."

SCOPE has introduced a variety of innovations to Ireland: an elite auction with horses selected by a panel that includes three Olympians; strict health exams on the day of inspection; x-rays for all horses other than foals; x-ray evaluations by a leading continental veterinary surgeon employing the same criteria he uses for the Hanoverian Verband and Danish Warmblood Society stallion inspections; and the SCOPE Breeders Code, designed to encourage breeders and producers to use state-of-the-art feeding and management practices with their foals and young stock.

The second SCOPE elite auction will be held on Tuesday 4 November at the Kill International Equestrian Centre in Kill, County Kildare. Twenty-three foals and six
older horses (2-, 3-, and 4-year-olds) will be on offer including Newmarket Vasco One, the Dublin Horse Show Loose-Jumping Champion.
