Turnout
Keep
your turnout looking pristine by including a Terra-Vac
suction cleaner in your grass management regime.
During the hotter weather, the grass can burn off or
grow long and tough, becoming unappetising for horses
and providing the ideal conditions for ragwort to flourish.
Topping keeps the grass short and full of vitamins,
but leaves behind the drying cuttings, which can cause
colic.
With unrivalled sucking and sweeping abilities, a Terra-Vac
will remove not only the grass cuttings but dung and
red worms (strongyles) as well, leaving your grass clean
and healthy! Please

Shamrock
Stays Slim and Healthy
At twenty-nine years old, Shamrock is not beyond acting
up a little. Occasionally, her owner Janet Alder finds
herself being towed in from the field as Shamrock races
to get to her dinner. But Janet doesn't mind, this is
a long-term relationship, built on over twenty-two years
of mutual love and trust.
When
Janet first bought Shamrock, the horse had a background
of neglect from a previous owner but Janet's patient
perseverance paid off and now Shamrock is a relaxed,
healthy horse who, even at her ripe old age, still enjoys
five mile hacks four days a week!

Oxfordshire's
Ragwort Patrol
Oxfordshire
County Council and The British Horse Society's (BHS)
Oxford County Committee have teamed up to patrol the
area for Ragwort. Work starts on July 12 and carries
through to include the BHS Ragwort Action Week (19
- 25 July) and beyond to ensure that horses and other
grazing animals are protected from the plant's deadly
toxins.
|
Hundreds
of horses die every year from ingesting Ragwort, which attacks
and destroys the liver. As a result, the BHS coordinates
a national campaign to create awareness of the dangers of
Ragwort. The Society initiated the Ragwort Control Act 2003
and the recently presented Code of Practice on how to control
the spread of Ragwort. In an effort to reduce significantly
the risks in Oxfordshire the County Council is employing
contractors to spot spray the worst affected areas of Ragwort
growth with teams of Ragwort 'pullers' for the less densely
affected areas found on the verges of major roads.

Championship Spot
An
exceptional cast was on hand at San Patrignano in the
second week of June to help conceive the ad that will
promote the next edition of the European Show Jumping
Championships, to be held in the equestrian centre of
the Rimini-based drug rehabilitation facility from the
21st to the 24th of June, 2005. |
Directing
the troupe was Francesco Appoloni, Italian director of such
important features as "Much Ado about love", and
"Just do it", winner of 2003's Golden Globe Italia.
Not wanting to reveal the details of the ads until they
are officially screened on July 15th at the World Equestrian

fundamental idea behind the story. "We want to present
a first-class sporting event to the world, without forgetting
the importance of life in the community. Thanks in part
to equitation and horses, many young men have been able

him by screaming around the course aboard NZ Better Believe

Jumping Result: IJM Timberframe Grand Prix League
- Marshall Swoops To Take Blessington Grand Prix
There
was a riveting finish to today's Blessington Super
League Grand Prix which saw the top three league leaders
engaged in an intriguing jump-off battle which went
right down to the wire.
With
Super League points on offer, the competition was
always going to be tough, and ten of the twenty-eight
starters successfully negotiated Tom Holden's course
as the rain mercifully held off over Kill International
Equestrian Centre.
|
The
two league leaders, Conor Swail and Shane Breen, both got
two horses into the finale, but there was no place in the
jump-off for yesterday's Omagh winner Peter Smyth as Zara's
Pride grazed a fence in their first attempt. Harry Marshall,
hot on the heels of the league leaders, got All Shook Up
into the decider, but had earlier lost out on Splendido
with one down.

A
new magazine for New Zealand owners of thoroughbred racehorses
has been launched.
It
is hoped the publication, New Zealand Thoroughbred Racehorse
Owner, will help lift the profile of the nations estimated
11,000 owners. The magazine is the voice of the New Zealand
Thoroughbred Racehorse Owners Federation.
Federation
members have in recent months been focused on reinvigorating
the organisation, with plans to build membership and, with
that, hopes of a greater voice within the industry.
The
magazine will not only profile the nations owners,
but also raise issues of concern to those with a stake in
thoroughbred racehorses.
