A
Horse of Course with Don Blazer
If
you have your eyes wide open, you'll be able to see that horses,
at one time or another, and sometimes in combination, can
have a feather in the eye, a glass eye, a pig eye, a pop eye,
a smoky eye or a walleye.
In
addition, they have both monocular and binocular vision. The
horse uses monocular vision to view separate things with each
eye at the same
time. These objects are to the side and rear of the horse.
Binocular
|
|
vision, for the
horse, is frontal vision, and when using it the horse concentrates
both eyes on the same object. (To know where a horse is looking, look
at his ears. A horse is looking where his ears are pointing, whether
together or separately.) The horse can see to the front, the side
and the rear. In fact, he has a field of vision of up to 300 degrees.

Dressage Blossoms
at Cosequin Winter Equestrian Festival
Tampa,
FLJanuary 29, 2002 The Cosequin Winter Equestrian Festival
(CWEF) is renowned for its high-flying jumpers that clear colorful
obstacles, but the CWEF is also home to another beautiful style
of riding, that found in the Olympic equestrian discipline of dressage.
Horses and riders performing dressage at the levels executed at
CWEF at the Palm Beach Polo Equestrian
Club demonstrate the beauty and poise reminiscent of Olympic figure
skating or gymnastics.
Dressage is a beautiful sport with roots that go back hundreds
of years, said Gene Mische, President of Stadium Jumping,
Inc., which produces the CWEF. To see these huge, magnificent
creatures performing these very precise movements without obvious
prompting from their riders is truly remarkable. You wonder, how
did they do that?

Ferrer-Salat
wins at San Patrignano CDI-W
|
Beatriz Ferrer-Salat,
the strong Spanish lady rider, jumps on the top of the podium in the
Free-Style Grand Prix at San Patrignano, which today closed the first
Italian dressage world Cup qualifier held in the facilities of the
largest European rehabilitation centre from drug addiction. Beatriz
Ferrer-Salat, who recently won the Mechelen Grand Prix in Belgium
confirmed, with this performance, to be at present the lady rider
in best shape in the dressage world scene and to form together with
her Bauvalais an unbeatable combination.
|
The
surprising Italian lady rider Laura Conz got near to this
result on her Fibrin, putting up an impeccable performance,
greeted with a burst of applause by more than 1000 people
attending the show. For the six times Italian National Champion
is the best result in international competitions achieved
till now and, as Cesare Croce underlines, "it's a further
confirmation that we can compete to top level also in this
discipline and have concrete ambitions for the next future".

Richard
Spooner Grabs His First Grand Prix Win At Start Of Six Week
Circuit |
The jump-off for
the $50,000 EMO Grand Prix at the HITS Indio Desert Circuit Week 1
was a case of one-upsmanship. Jenni Martin set a time of 48.959 aboard
Pop Socks, which was topped by Richard Spooner and Bradford when they
stopped the clock in 45.479. Undaunted, Misti Cassar galloped Fahrenheit
boldly around Ken Kromes challenging course to finish in 44.726. John
French was next with Millennium and he seemed ahead of Cassars time
when he got in a rush at the last fence and Millennium stopped. However,
Cassars time had to withstand three more rounds, and Martin returned
aboard Sunrise to shave off another half. John Pearce and Harry Potter
decisively reduced the time another two seconds by stopping the time
at 42.569. Only Spooner was left with Incento.

Dutch
colours dominate day two at San Patrignano
|
F.E.I. Dressage
World Cup day two in San Patrignano: Cesare Croce, F.IS.E. President,
has drawn attention on the great work made in these last 4 years in
order to relaunch equestrian sports in Italy and the good competitive
results attained by Italian riders in top international competitions:
"Nowadays Italy is unanimous held in esteem for its good ability
in the organization of equestrian events". He declared "Our
international shows, Piazza di Siena, Pavarotti International, Vincenzo
Muccioli Challenge, La Bagnaia, mentioning only some of them, can
offer jumping shows that can be compared to top events such as Aquisgrana
or Calgary.
|
I hope that the friendship and the reciprocal esteem existing
between the federation and the community, make it possible
to reach great achievements for dressage, as well as for American
riding and, most of all, to succeed in organizing the European
Championships here in San Patrignano".
