On
behalf of British Dressage the British Equestrian Federation has
appointed Dr Graham Munroe as World Class Performance Dressage Team
Veterinary Surgeon.
Dr
Munroe replaces John McEwen, who stepped down from his role as Team
Vet after the European Championships in 2001, but remains Honorary
Veterinary Advisor to British Dressage. Dr Munroe's appointment
completes the World Class Performance Management team for dressage,
alongside Ian Williams - Performance Manager and Ferdi Eilberg -
Director of Coaching.

Dr Munroe qualified
as a vet in 1979 and since then he has specialised in equine clinical
practice, working at a number of well-known equine practices including
Rossdale & Partners and Scott Dunn & Ward. He was a clinician
at the Glasgow and Edinburgh Veterinary Schools for 10 years, and now
has his own equine consultancy in Berwickshire, Scotland. He consults
at various equine hospitals in Scotland and northern England in surgery,
lameness and opthalmology.
Dr Munroe has been Honorary Team Veterinary Surgeon for the British Horse
Driving Trials Association since 1994, and has accompanied them to two
World Equestrian Games, five World Championships and two European Championships.
In his role as Dressage
Team Vet Dr Munroe will attend major international events to provide veterinary
care for the team and, most importantly, advise the riders on their horses
health and welfare during training. Commenting on his new role Dr Munroe
said: "I am particularly looking forward to working with the whole
performance team to produce a structured and long-term approach to veterinary
care for the dressage team horses."
Speaking about the
appointment Performance Manager, Ian Williams, said: "I'm delighted
to welcome someone of Dr Munroe's stature and experience on to the dressage
management team. We will be working to give the British Dressage team
the best possible preparation for the World Equestrian Games, the European
Championships in 2003 and the Athens Olympics."
The position of Team
Vet is supported by Lottery funds through UK Sport as part of their commitment
to developing elite athletes and Great Britain's sporting success. Dr
Munroe will take up this new role immediately and will attend the next
two-day assessment, taking place at the Unicorn Trust in Gloucestershire
at the end of February.
