Samsung Nations Cup Final In Madrid
The
Netherlands came out on top in a thrilling finish to the 2000/2001
Samsung Nations Cup Series which went right down to the wire
as the last rider into the ring decided the result. And it was
the hot-favourites from Germany, joint-leaders with the Dutch
after the first round, who lost out as only a clear from Heinrich
Hermann Engemann would clinch the title for his side but, last
to go, he returned with four fences down to drop his side to
fourth behind the host team from Spain in third. |
Belgium finished
a very close with Ludo Philippaerts and Parco, who claimed the Leading
Horse and Rider titles in the year-long Samsung Nations Cup league,
putting in yet another superb double-clear performance

All The Queen's
Horses" Sells 30% Of Tickets In First Week Of Box Office
All The Queens
Horses (16th-18th May 2002), a live spectacular which will pay
tribute to Her Majesty in The Queens Golden Jubilee Year, has
announced that in the first 5 days since the box office opened, it
has sold over one third of the entire ticket allocation for the three
night spectacular, the equivalent of one whole performance.
Director, Simon
Brooks-Ward said: We have never experienced such a response
to ticket sales before. Word of mouth and the Internet seem to be
the way people have heard about this very special event. It is even
more astonishing when you consider that, as yet, not one advert or
leaflet has been distributed. It really demonstrates the depth of
feeling the public and the equestrian community have for their Sovereign.

Morningside Stud Establishes
Presence in Asia
In the frontier
days of the United States, the expression was "Go west, young man."
For Tom Reed, the owner of Morningside Stud in County Clare, Ireland,
the expression is "Go east - to China!"
Morningside Stud has established a presence in Hong Kong, a special
administrative region of the People's Republic of China (PRC).
From this new base in Hong Kong, Tom hopes to contribute to the growing
interest in equestrian sports in Asia by helping riders and breeders
access excellent competition horses and top breeding stock from Ireland
and continental Europe. And with the 2008 Olympics planned for

Training Mythunderstandings
The Three Times You Should Punish Your Horse
If you've ever taken riding lessons,
you can relate to your horse when it comes to being corrected
for something you didn't do quite right. Maybe the instructor
just got a little sarcastic. Or maybe she raised things to the
level of a good scold. Maybe you messed up big time and got
yelled at big time. Or maybe to prove her point about what you
did wrong, the instructor got really stern and made you do whatever
it was over and over and over to drill into your head. |
Whatever happened, as the instructor
got louder or pushier or stricter you probably didn't feel very good
about what you were doing. Your first reaction was probably a knot
in your stomach. Or you got nervous or afraid or grumpy or mad or
resentful. Even if you knew you earned the dressing down you got,
going through it didn't make you feel very good about riding that
day.
Worst of all, you probably didn't learn much of anything except that
going back into the arena with that instructor wasn't something you
were looking forward to.
That's why we teach our students that there are three times you punish
a horse for doing something wrong--never, never and never.

Herbs, Oils and a Pinch
of Love
Our horses become a
very special part of our lives. With the speeding up of time
we are busy rushing here and there, looking for quick fixes
and generally compounding any issue we have in our lives due
to our own haste. When we start to look within and spend quality
time with our horses, the insights we can learn from them can
open up a new exploration of the world around us.
One way to take time is to look at how we can work with our
horses naturally. With domestication and our hectic routines
our horses are close to losing touch with their ancient roots.
We can reintroduce into their lives a selection of herbs and
aromas from essential oils that will help all of us get back
to a natural state of being. |
Herbs
Herbs can be traced back to their use with several American Indian
tribes and the Romani Gypsies of Europe. Both these cultures had accomplished
horsemen and women who combined their training methods with the use
of herbs. Even using herbs can be seen in the works of Xenophon in
his book The Art of Horsemanship where is notes the importance of
adding herbs to horses bran of an evening.
Aromatherapy
With many of our horses being stabled and not able to get out often
due to our land restriction, essential oils can bring a touch of brain
sunshine into their lives. Aromatherapy is a relatively new therapy.
The use of essential oils can be documented throughout the ages, but
its modern application is less than one hundred years. The beauty
of aromatherapy is your horse can assist you with the selection of
what he considers is most appropriate.
The Pinch of Love
These therapies are useful in their own right, however when they are
done with love and intention the increased effect can be ten-fold.
