ILPH in Brussels to Lobby MEPs
Representatives from the ILPH (International League for the Protection of Horses) were in Brussels earlier this week to lobby support from MEPs on slaughter horse related issues.
Comments Jo White, Campaigns Manager at the ILPH, "We went to Brussels to gain further support from the politicians for our two inter-linking campaigns, against the long-distance transportation of slaughter horses and the possible resumption of the live export of horses and ponies from the UK to the continent for slaughter.
"We are concerned about certain aspects of the draft EU Animal Welfare Regulations, published this summer, that will affect the transportation of slaughter horses into the EU and could allow the resumption of live exports of horses and ponies from the UK to the continent.

Javlin Are Back!
"We're back…and we're here to stay!" says Zoe Fearnley, Sales and Marketing Manager for Javlin Outdoor Clothing, part of the Ashtons Manufacturing Group.
Javlin Outdoor Clothing was created thirty years ago in South Yorkshire, when a gap in the market for good quality, warm but functional clothing to wear whilst out sailing was noticed. The company's owners developed their own fibre pile fabric, designed the products and Javlin was born.
In 1972 the British Olympic Sailing team wore their new, innovative wetsuit to victory, with Rodney Pattisson bringing home a Gold Medal. Then came those 'Yellow Wellies' and further Fibre Clothing all developed for the sailing market. Soon, however, other sporting fraternities noticed Javlin's clothing and orders began flooding in from climbers. Javlin was delighted when the British Everest Expedition of 1975 wore the Javlin Fibre Pile and conquered the South West Face. Always on the look out for ways of expanding its range, Javlin set about captivating the equestrian market, and developed a full range of products from base layer to waterproofs.

The next 'hot bed' in the FEI World Cup Dressage Season….And Anky is back
The third leg of the FEI World Cup dressage Western European league season, which takes place in Maastricht, The Netherlands this weekend, promises to be a hot bed of excellence and excitement.
Olympic and five-time World Cup champion Anky van Grunsven makes her return to the international grand prix arena in Maastrict, nearly a year after sustaining a complex fractured to her thigh in a fall while training. Riding the nine-year-old Gestion Salinero, with whom she won the freestyle here last year, van Grunsven will debut a brand new programme created by her music gurus, Cees Slings and Victor Kerkof, entitled 'L'Esprit Chanson'. Peter Wylde Named Leading Rider at CSI-W Geneva
GLADSTONE, NEW JERSEY—December 10, 2003—U.S. show jumping rider Peter Wylde was named Leading Rider at CSI-W Geneva. Wylde, a double Silver Medalist at the 1999 Pan American Games and individual Bronze Medalist at the 2002 World Equestrian Games (WEG), was awarded a new Land Rover for his consistently-successful performances during the international show jumping competition.
In the final event of the week, the Rolex Grand Prix World Cup Qualifier, Wylde placed third on Fein Cera (Holsteiner, Landadel-Cera, owned by Turnabout Farm Inc.), his 2002 Bronze Medal mount who was named Best Horse of the Show Jumping World Championships held at the WEG. Wylde and Fein Cera turned in one of only four double clear rides in the Rolex Grand Prix to place third behind Thomas Velin of Denmark and Otto Becker of Germany.

British Horse Society response to Defra consultation document
The British Horse Society (BHS) has received a copy of the Government's consultation paper, 'Use of mechanically propelled vehicles on Rights of Way' as one of the consultant user groups.
The BHS will be scrutinising the consultation document and until that work has taken place the BHS is unable to comment more fully.

FEI/Gandini Top Ten Final Presented By Rolex: Pessoa Wins Top Ten Final In Geneva
A capacity crowd enjoyed the third annual FEI/Gandini Top-Ten Final in the Palexpo Arena in Geneva yesterday (Saturday 6 December) where Rodrigo Pessoa claimed the 36,000 CHF first prize riding the stallion Baloubet du Rouet.
The Brazilian rider, who placed ninth in 2001 and seventh last year, said "it’s a unique competition, my horse jumped very well in both rounds and I am very happy to win it".
His success was all the more remarkable for the fact that he had been feeling ill on Thursday and Friday but, after his victory, Rodrigo said "I felt it was important to stay and compete, so I rested a lot. I’m still not 100% but I was well enough to stay on the horse and be transported!".

FEI World Cup Jumping News: Velin Makes It Two-In-A-Row
Thomas Velin won his second successive leg of the FEI World Cup Jumping series at Geneva today with another superb performance from the French stallion Equest Carnute.
Winner at the previous leg in Berlin three weeks ago, the 28 year old Danish rider said afterwards "it’s been a great few weeks for me because in Stockholm last weekend, which was not a World Cup Show, we also won the big class on Friday and then the Grand Prix – the only two competitions in which I jumped the horse. He has been eight times in the ring and has won four times in the past few weeks" he said, delighted to earned the winning prize of 35,000 CHF.
This promoted him to third position on the Leaderboard behind Eric Van der Vleuten in second while Marco Kutscher, ninth today, remains at the head of the table with 50 points and is now well-qualified for the Final in Milan next April.

But then 17-year-old Casey Cousins wasn't looking for the easy way, just the best way to fill her dreams with success.
Casey has always loved horses, so being a horse trainer is her career choice. To assure her dream will be a success; Casey became the first in the nation to seek a Professional Designation in Horse Training from Austin Education Center. Casey will take nine courses, all online, and all at her convenience.
"I won a scholarship, but I still have to work to pay for my education," says the high school graduate. "So I work in my family's insurance business and study when I can." Casey lives in Vandergrift, PA, but since all courses are online, she does her studying at home instead of traveling to a campus.
"I know I want to train horses, but I'm not positive yet about specializing. I think maybe I'd like to train horses for dressage competition-particularly Andalusians." Please click here for further details
