A Horse, of Course with
Don Blazer
If you live in a state with an equine-activity
liability law and you think it is going to keep you from getting sued, think
again!
The law may be the law, but lawyers get rich initiating and defending law
suits. All kinds of law suits. Frivolous law suits.
You may be totally innocent of any wrong doing, so might your horse. Your
boarding stable may be the safest in the country, or your training or riding
instruction flawless. |
|
It doesn't matter. Even after it has been declared
you did everything correctly, or that your horse was not at fault, your defense
costs could be in the thousands of dollars. It can cost you plenty to win a
groundless law suit.

Equestrian Vaulters Earn Qualifying Scores
South Hadley, MA -- Vaulters arrived from
all corners of the United States. They said it couldn't be done. Some said the
vaulters would not come. They were wrong. The opportunity for vaulters to
showcase the partnership they have spent the last year perfecting with their
horses brought them to Massachusetts. They overcame many obstacles; the
distance was just one of many. The horses, the vaulters, the longeurs and
coaches made the first American Vaulting Association (AVA) National Vaulting
Championships held in the Northeast a spectacular event.

Philosophical beliefs and perceptions, aesthetic and technical aspects of
Foundation Training, avoiding all restriction, preconditioning for the first

ownership, especially to the increasing number of people who are becoming horse
owners for the first time. Information on horse care will be distributed around

easibed Links With Newly Launched Stable-On-Site
Business
easibed dust-free bedding is to become the
preferred bedding supplier to the newly launched Stable-on-Site temporary
stables business, which supplied its first stables to the Dressage at Hickstead
fixture last month.
Run by Dane Rawlins and partners, Stable-on-Site
stables are a high-quality and proven European concept already familiar to
international riders and now being introduced into the UK for the first time,
proving an immediate success at the Hickstead fixture.
easibed sponsored bedding for Dressage at
Hickstead and the response from competitors and their grooms was very positive
to the product. easibed offers not only the obvious advantages of being dust
free, but also is quick to muck out, free draining so the bed stays drier and
clings less to manes, tails and rugs.

Mark Leone and Casino Win
$50,000 HITS Grand Prix at Winston National at HITS Culpeper IV |
CULPEPER, VA (August 19, 2001)--Mark Leone, 39, of
Oakland, New Jersey, riding Casino, won the $50,000 HITS Grand Prix at the
Winston National Horse Show in Culpeper, Virginia, today, besting a field of 31
entries. In a four-horse Jump-Off, Leone was the faster of only two
double-clears, beating Lynne Little of Frederick, Maryland, on Comtessa X by
more than a second. Leone, a member of the U.S. Equestrian Team, has
represented the USA at 10 World Cup Finals and 28 Nations Cups. Casino, a
15-year-old German-bred gelding by Polydor, earned $15,000 for his owner,
Leone's Ri-Arm Farm. Buddy Brown of Wellington, Florida, designed the course.
The Winston National is the fourth of six shows in the HITS Culpeper series
held from May to September at Commonwealth Park.
On the Round One course, Brown allowed riders 94 seconds to jump 16 obstacles
that included three double combinations--Fence Nos. 4, 8, and 10. The highest
jump on course was the 5' 3" triple bar at No. 9. Riders had rails down at
every fence except No. 7, the water. Fence No. 11 caused the most faults--12
horses were unable to clear the 5' wide oxer with its uneven rails set at 4'
9" and 4' 10". Two riders voluntarily withdrew on course. Three
riders were eliminated in falls, including Todd Minikus who rode four horses in
the class and qualified one for the Jump-Off, and Lynne Little, who rode three
horses and qualified two for the Jump-Off.

Fibre For Horses
What is fibre? Fibre is the material
of the plant cell wall that gives plants their rigidity. There are many types
of fibre including lignin, cellulose, hemicellulose and pectin. These are all
types of carbohydrate molecules made up of many glucose units bound by links
that are indigestible by mammalian enzymes. However, microbial organisms
located in the hindgut of the horse can break down these links and in doing so,
create a useful energy source for the horse. These microbes can almost fully
digest pectin and partially digest hemicellulose and cellulose, however they
cannot digest lignin.
One can get an estimate of the amount of fibre in their horses diet through hay
analysis and looking at feed tags. Fibre is described as crude fibre on feed
tags which includes mostly the cellulose fraction and some lignin. On hay or
grain analysis, the terms ADF or NDF will be used. NDF or Neutral Detergent
Fibre is the component of the feed that is lignin, cellulose and hemicellulose.
The ADF or Acid Detergent Fibre portion includes only cellulose and lignin. The
higher the NDF/ADF values, the less digestible the feed is.
