From Wild Horse to the Nokota Breed:
One Herd's Fight for Survival
|
Nokota horses are descended
from early Indian and ranch stock. Nokota horses are typically roan or overo in
color. They survived as a wild population until rounded-up and sold at auction.
Leo and Frank Kuntz purchased them to save them from slaughter. |
Most surviving Nokota are supported and bred by
the Kuntz family. A breed registry is being formed to help preserve these rare
horses.

The Electro-Acuscope Myopulse Therapy System
The Electro-Acuscope Myopulse Therapy
System is a highly sophisticated electronic medical instrument that has been
very successful when applied to a wide range of neuromuscular conditions
commonly affecting equine athletes. The Acuscope uses electricity to treat pain
by stimulating the nervous system without puncturing the skin. The Myopulse, a
companion instrument to the Acuscope, gently stimulates muscles, tendons and
ligaments, reducing spasm, inflammation and strengthening tissue damaged by
traumatic injury. Over the last decade, the Electro-Acuscope Myopulse Therapy
System has been used extensively in the treatment of horses.

Cushings Syndrome
Cushing's Syndrome is well known in
humans, cats and especially in dogs. It is also becoming more prevalent in
horses, and yet there is little written about identifying it, and caring for
horses who suffer from it. It is regarded as incurable in horses, though it is
possible that horses can live reasonably happily for a long time whilst
suffering from it.

The Percheron
The Percheron Horse originated in the area known
as "La Perche" in the north west of France. Here in 732 A.D. Arabian
Horses abandoned by Moors after their defeat in the Battle of Tours were
crossed with the massive Flemish stock and from this cross came the Percheron
type which has endured for twelve centuries. Despite the placid nature of the
Percheron, they are capable of a good showing with plenty of action when
required for showing. A well-matched team of either dark dapple or light greys,
properly handled, can make a very fine display. Again, their nature makes them
good to handle and very popular with the public.
