Another
triumph for Adam Shereston, the man who helps horses
and humans in a paranormal way.
With
a reputation that is known throughout the UK, Adam Shereston's
latest success has now catapulted him into the headlines
once again. The gifted individual has baffled medical
science on many previous occassions. This time with
his latest success, the proof is in the pictures with
veterinary x-ray scan results. |
Mrs
Maria Stewart, who lives near Sudbury, Suffolk, had given
up hope that her 17.3h hunter would ever recover from a
severe hock tendon injury and despite a major operation
and further intensive treatment, Samson failed to come sound
and the injury failed to heal. The initial x-rays taken
showed the intensive damage to Samson's hock. With Samson
still very lame, further x-rays were taken 8months later
to see if the injury showed any signs of repairing. The
results came back exactly the same with no signs of healing
at all.
Having given up hope of any recovery, Mrs Stewart read an
article about Adam Shereston's abilities, and previous results
he had with horses. Without any hesitation she contacted
him to see if he would be able to help Samson. After Adam's
first visit, which latest for about 2hours, Samson had gone
from hopping lame, to almost sound. A further visit was
made, again lasting about 2 hours, with this visit, Samson
seemed to became sound.

Groundbreaking
Survival Effort By Cleveland Bay Horse Society
IN
a groundbreaking effort to ensure the survival of the Cleveland
Bay, a unique initiative has been launched by the Rare Breeds
Survival Trust (RBST) and the breed society.
Semen
is to be collected from a carefully selected cross section
of Cleveland Bay stallions and then frozen to assist with
the survival and growth of the breed.
The
10-year programme will see the Cleveland Bay Breed Society
working in conjunction with the Rare Breeds Survival Trust
(RBST) to ensure that stallions submitted represent the
broadest genetic diversity in the live population.
All
stallions will need to be registered and have an accurate
minimum three-generation pedigree.
Charles
Medforth, President of the Cleveland Bay Horse Society said:
"We are delighted to be working with the RBST and feel
very fortunate to have their technical expertise to help
us with the survival of the breed."
The
RBST National ReGENEration Appeal has been set up in direct
response to the FMD outbreak. Although horses and ponies
were not susceptible, the devastating effects of the 2001
epidemic highlighted the need for adequate reserves of genetic
reserves for all species and breeds listed by the RBST.
Currently
the RBST has no equine genetic material in store and funds
have been made available to start collecting semen this
year. The long term aim is to collect semen from 25 stallions
from each of the equine breeds currently listed by the Trust.

Something
Horrible On Nancy's Cart!
Nancy
the Welsh cob is a familiar sight on the streets of
capital, usually trotting happily along pulling a cart
of fruit and veg' to one of the busy London markets.
Nancy,
whose pedigree title is Acacia Black Lady, recently
found herself towing an altogether less appealing load,
however.
Britain's
grisliest leisure attraction The London Dungeon recruited
Nancy's services, and those of her driver 19-year-old
Jonathan Edwards and his 15-year-old brother Jimmy,
to help spread news around the city of a new show based
on The Great Plague of 1665. |
Hence
Nancy, who is stabled in Enfield, was hitched up to a plague
cart
decked with ragged mannequins, skulls and bones,
and carrying Dungeon actresses Kelly Philpott and Annie
McCabe.
Even
Jonathan and Jimmy were made-up in the style of plague-victims,
complete with fake sores and boils, for a macabre tour which
took in Hyde Park, Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square,
among other famous landmarks.
"You'd
have thought people would be appalled, but in fact they
loved it," said Kelly. "Nancy was as good as gold,
and seemed to enjoy all the attention as much as we did."

New
Trade Mission To US Shows Promise For Industry
IT
was a British one, two, three at the Rolex Three-Day-Event
in Kentucky.
While
the event riders scooped major honours, the Princess
Royal toured the British Pavilion and the British
Trade Mission scored major business successes.
The
trade delegation was organised by the British Equestrian
Trade Association (BETA) and attracted nine exhibitors
to the British Pavilion to promote their products
and services.
|
BETA
Chief Executive and Secretary Claire Williams said: "The
Trade Mission went extremely well, with all exhibitors reporting
a very good reception throughout the event.
"The
Princess Royal spoke to all the exhibitors and was very
interested to hear why they had decided to attend and what
were their aims for the mission. "One
of the exhibitors Unicorn Trails caught the Princess Royal's
attention and picked up on MD Wendy Hofstee's comment that
there was still much potential in marketing riding holidays
in Great Britain overseas."
Ms
Williams added: "Most of the exhibitors were pleasantly
surprised by how visitors to the stands actively sought
information about their prducts or services.
"The
success of the British riders was certainly matched by the
success of the Trade Mission which we hope to repeat next
year."

League series begins at La Baule, the National Federations

for what promises to be a tough and thrilling opening
leg.

Monday the definite entries for the French fixture
will be confirmed, but it is already clear that

again!
The eight-strong German nomination includes both
Ludger Beerbaum and recent World Cup winner Marcus

of the five Dutch nominees. The British, at last
shaking off the malaise of recent years, are back
in fighting form with a new-look squad including
young Richard Davenport and the veteran Michael
Whitaker while Jerry Smit and Roberto Arioldi are
amongst the nine proposed by the Italian Federation.

Support For Eventing's Rising Star Ruth Friend
easibed
manufacturer G.I. Hadfield & Son Ltd has announced
a sponsorship deal providing bedding to event rider
Ruth Friend as part of an expanding promotional portfolio
supporting the easibed product.
Ruth, a member of the 5-strong World Class Potential
Squad for the second year in succession, has a string
of 11 horses to compete this season, 6 of them advanced
and she has already notched up several early season
wins.
Following
her decision to switch her yard to dust free easibed
at the start of the year, Ruth contacted National Sales
Manager Ian McColville who announced the sponsorship,
saying, "We visited Ruth's yard to talk to her
about easibed and were immediately very impressed with
her totally professional approach. We're delighted to
support her and confident that easibed will make a significant
contribution to keeping her horses healthy and at peak
fitness. |
Ruth
said, "Obviously I'm delighted! easibed is dust free,
which is the main reason I was interested in the product,
but I'm also really pleased with how clean everything is
and how much time we save on the yard, as it's so easy to
work with. We can store the bales outside, which is convenient,
but I'm probably most excited about the potential health
benefits for the horses, as respiratory fitness is so important!"
Ruth
joins an increasing number of top class competition riders
choosing dust free easibed for the horses in their care,
the proven benefits of the product a key part of a successful

of riding on horseback.
At most horse shows, equitation classes are for Junior or
Amateur riders; however, the $25,000 Equitation Championship
is open to all riders, including professionals and trainers.
"It is unusual where junior and amateur riders have
the opportunity to compete against the top professionals,
particularly in this type of format," said Dale Harvey,
Manager of the Hunter/Jumper week competitions at the Del
Mar National, and creator of the $25,000 Equitation Championship.
The competition is over an advanced equitation course, 3'6",
and is based on points awarded by judges. Each rider is
graded on position, accuracy in executing the course, and
riding style and technique.
The Equitation Championship will be held over four rounds
of competition.

Special
Olympics World Games 2003 Equestrian Update
The
countdown to the Special Olympics World Games 2003
is now entering its final stages. The venue is nearing
completion, the volunteer team is in place and going
through the final stages of their job specific training
whilst the athletes are in full training and preparation,
eagerly awaiting the games. For the athletes this
is their 'finale', having been selected to represent
their delegations following local, regional, and national
games since the last World Games held in the Gov.
James B. Hunt Horse Complex, North Carolina, four
years ago. For the athletes, the volunteers and the
games organising committee there is only one chance
to deliver a unique and unparallel sporting and cultural
experience for all involved.
|
|
The
goodwill expressed in the locality and equestrian world
is now being realised and is truly amazing to witness its
evolution. This feeling of goodwill will be carried out
throughout the country during the games and will make the
occasion a highlight of many people's lives. Indeed for
Kill International Equestrian Centre this will be the first
competition to be held in the purpose built venue.
The
equestrian events in Kill will see 138 athletes from 22
delegations taking part. Each athlete may enter into three
competitions, which include English equitation, working
trails, dressage, prix caprilli and gymkhana games. The
matching process for the athletes will take place on 19th,
21st, 22nd June. At this point the coaches have the opportunity
to select from a pool of horses the most suitable for their
athlete. This is then followed on 23rd June by the divisioning
process which grades the athletes into various competition
levels of ability before competition begins on Tuesday 24th
June. At this point it is envisaged that competition will
run through the week until Saturday lunchtime.
Award
ceremonies will take place at lunch after the morning session
and in the late afternoon after the afternoon competitions
are complete. Throughout the week there will be various
demonstrations and entertainment during the mid-day interval
whilst following the Friday afternoon awards ceremony there
will be a parade of all the volunteer horses in way of acknowledgement
to the horses and their horse owners for their valued contribution.

Joe
Turi has very sadly lost his battle for life in a Hungarian
hospital earlier today, following a motorbike crash over
the Easter weekend.
Joe,
born in Hungary in 1956 joined a troupe of Hungarian Czikos
trick riders at the age of 16. Despite his father wanting
him to become an electrician, Joe served an apprenticeship
at a Hungarian State Stud Farm. He first came to England
in 1973 with the Czikos riders and duly decided not to return.
He was later granted political asylum and he began working
in a riding school before moving on to work in a dealing
yard and later in a National Hunt yard. But it was whilst
working for the shavings company, General Chip that he first
met Michael Bullman. Michael duly bought him some show jumping
horses to ride in 1975 and this sparked not only Joe's illustrious
career in international show jumping but also a very special
partnership between him and Michael.
During
his career Joe made 34 British Nations Cup appearances between
1986 and 1995 with his string of top quality horses such
as Kruger, Waysider and the world renowned, Vital with whom
he amassed over £150,000 winnings. Joe partnered Vital
to many wins including a Team Gold Medal at the 1989 European
Championships in Rotterdam and what Joe described as his
favourite win, the Hickstead Derby in 1990. The combination
also represented Great Britain in the 1988 Seoul Olympic
Games where the team finished in 6th place.

British
Riding Clubs' National Novice Indoor Show Jumping Championships
2003
Sponsored by Natural Animal Feeds
The finals of the NAF sponsored Novice Indoor Show Jumping
Championship took place on 26 and 27 April and provided
an excellent show case for BRC's talented novice riders.
The course, designed and built by Nick Staines, ensured
a suitable challenge for the finalists. The senior day
fielded 34 qualifying teams and 24 junior teams on the
Sunday. |
Tracey
Lloyd, PR & Marketing Manager for Natural Animal Feeds
said "NAF are delighted to sponsor this extremely popular
Championship. It's wonderful to be involved in a competition
like this, run specifically for novice riders where the
facilities and organisation are first class. The number
of teams competing were up on last year, and while the competition
was hot, the sense of team spirit was particularly apparent,
creating a great atmosphere throughout the whole weekend.
I'm sure everyone, horses, riders and support teams, had
a really great time which makes it all the more rewarding
for NAF to sponsor the competition."

Chris
Kappler and Royal Kaliber Selected to 2003 Pan American
Games Team
Gladstone,
NJApril 30, 2003Chris Kappler of Pittstown,
NJ, and Royal Kaliber have been selected for one of
the four positions on the show jumping team that will
represent the United States at the 2003 Pan American
Games in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic. This
marks the first time since 1990 that a place on a
U.S. show jumping team competing at a continental
or world championship or Olympic Games will be held
by someone chosen subjectively.
|
This
is a historic moment for our sport, said United States
Equestrian Team (USET) President Armand Leone Jr. Subjective
selections have worked extremely well in eventing and recent
years have seen increasing calls for some subjectivity in
our show jumping selection process as well. Last year, we
had an option for a subjective choice for our World Equestrian
Games jumping team, and although the Selectors chose not
to use the option, our Show Jumping Committee felt strongly
that this option will help us field stronger teams. Given
Royal Kalibers incredible success over the last two
years, it is clearly in our countrys best interest
to put him on the team.
The
Pan American Games selection process, developed initially
by the Active Riders Committee and approved by the Executive
Committees of both the United States Equestrian Team and
USA Equestrian (USAE), allows Selectors to nominate
one or two horse-and-rider combinations to the team before
the conclusion of the trials.

Dressage
at Devon Announces North American Breeders Futurity Championship
With Prize Money in Excess of $20,000
Classes
will take place at the 29th annual Dressage at Devon, September
23 - 29
Devon,
PAApril 30, 2003Dressage at Devon 2003 will
be the venue for the first ever North American Breeders
Futurity Championship Finals for Five and Six Year Old Horses.
The new classes are the result of a collaboration between
the Dressage at Devon committee, the ISR Oldenburg Registry
and the Federation of North American Sport Horse Registries
(FNASHR). A warm-up class will be held on Thursday, September
25, offering a fitting bridge between the Breed Division
of the show, which ends on Thursday, and the Performance
Division of the show, which begins on Friday. The championship
finals will be held midday on Friday, September 26
The
classes were developed to put more emphasis on the training
of young horses in North America, where many feel young
horses are not supported. The horses bred in North
America are now up to the quality of those in Europe,
says Ekkehard L. Brysch, President of the ISR Oldenburg
Registry North America and one of the instigators of this
program. This raises the question of why these young
horses are not as successful as they are in Europe. Why
are we not making horses here instead of importing them
from Europe?
In
the late 1990s a series of measures were developed to help
encourage training and competing of young horses to help
breeders sell their progeny. While there are more classes
for young horses now than in the recent past, they are often
not as well attended as they could be. The ISR Oldenburg
N.A. and the FNASHR are making efforts to make these classes
more attractive for trainers, riders and owners to compete
in. One of the incentives being used is money.

Farewell,
Beloved Rym and Ila
Rym,
beloved vaulting horse and friend of many, was humanely
euthanized on Friday, April 4th at the University of California
at Davis. Although he has passed in body from our presence,
his spirit will remain in the hearts of those who knew him
and enjoyed competing on such a fine vaulting horse.
After
extensive unsuccessful treatments and procedures attempting
to correct and ease Rym's physical problems, veterinarians
determined that nothing could be done to avert those problems.
With his groom, Zenon Quintana, beside him, Rym passed on.
Rym
led a full life from his birth in Poland in 1981 until his
passing in Davis, CA recently. During his 22 years, this
Polish thoroughbred was able to travel all over the world
and was at one point a citizen of both Poland and Germany,
and later of the United States. He is fondly remembered
by all those who vaulted on him, including Jeannette Boxall,
a former world champion vaulter, and Mari Inoye, a recent
vaulting champion.
Jeannette
remembers a story that describes Rym's personality and love
for children. In Germany in 1990, Rym was loose in an arena
with children who were playing soccer. He watched them and
walked among them until he too had the opportunity to nose
and kick the ball. It turns out that Rym was good at two
sports in his lifetime.

Funnell
Win Highlighted 2003 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, Presented
by Bayer CCI ****
Lexington,
KYApril 29, 2003In her first visit to the Rolex
Kentucky Three-Day Event, Presented by Bayer, April 24-27
at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY, Great Britains
Pippa Funnell enjoyed a victory she will never forget.
Funnell,
33, took the lead following the conclusion of the opening
phase of dressage, when the two-time European Champion and
her mount, Primmores Pride, topped the 55-horse starting
field with a score of 38.6 penalty points. Funnell and her
mount, a 10-year-old English thoroughbred gelding whom she
has developed since his owners, Roger and Denise Lincoln,
purchased him as a yearling, never slipped from the top
of the leader board for the remainder of the event; although
a slow, cautious ride in the concluding jumping phase nearly
cost them the win!
By
posting one of 16 clear cross-country rounds over the course
set by Michael Etherington-Smith, Funnell added no penalty
points to her dressage score in the second phase of the
three-day event. Sitting on top of the standings going into
the final phase of competition, Funnell rode last in the
order. She jumped all of the obstacles cleanly, but incurred
six time faults to post a final score of 44.6 penalty points,
the exact same score turned in by her countryman Polly Stockton
on Tangleman. As the crowd of over 22,000 and a live television
audience in Europe held its collective breath, announcer
Nigel Casserly announced that Funnel had held on for the
win based on her having a better score than Stockton in
the cross country phase.
Thank
goodness I had a good day yesterday because I have never
been so embarrassed by a show jumping ride in my life,
Funnell said after realizing she had exceeded the time allowed
for the jumping phase by such a large margin. I was
trying to do everything to leave the jumps up and I failed
to pay attention to the clock! Somehow, the gods were with
me!
Funnells
victory earned her $60,000 in prize money in addition to
a Rolex timepiece. She also took the first step toward winning
the $250,000 Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing, awarded to any
rider who wins the Rolex Kentucky, Badminton and Burghley
Four Star events in succession.

British
Horse Society launches success campaign at Badminton
The
British Horse Society will launch a campaign to highlight
its successes at Badminton (1-4 May) with new banners
and leaflets on the BHS stand (No: 106). Entitled 'So
what did the British Horse Society do last year?' the
banners will announce the Society's achievements in
2002 supported by leaflets giving more detail and an
opportunity to join the equestrian world's largest membership
organisation at a rate that stays the same as last year
(Gold membership). |
Chief
Executive Kay Driver explained, "Despite a great deal
of press coverage of our work we are often asked the question.
'What does the BHS do?' and we are addressing that question
with these banners and leaflets. The work achieved by the
BHS on behalf of every horse and rider is phenomenal, too
much to include in one leaflet so we have focused on our
successes of last year, fully reflecting the many areas
of horse welfare.

Endurance
horse fatalities at the 2002 World Equestrian Games
The
Judicial Committee of the FEI has now considered all the
facts made available to it by the extensive investigations
and an official enquiry into the deaths of the two Endurance
horses during the WEG 2002. The cause of death in both horses
a multi-systemic failure which appears to have been associated
with fatigue and exhaustion. The Judicial Committee concluded
that a multiplicity of factors contributed, directly or
indirectly, to the fatalities and accordingly, no assessment
of conduct was carried out and no individual was sanctioned.

win at the Louth County Show in Dundalk today (Sunday).
Riding
his 2002 Kerrygold Puissance winner <Irish Independent

O'Connor,

I was delighted to win.> |

take Fourth Place today, ridden by his protegé, Dan

The
Marwari Horse
The call thunders down the ages through the sands of
time and fades into the desert air, a haunting remembrance
to an era of chivalry and valour forever lost yet indelibly
stamped into the spirit of Rajasthan. To know and love
the Marwari is to re-enter the magical realm of our
childhood, a world of castles and heroes, intrigues
and passion, dark deeds and mythical horses. |
To
ride a Marwari is to realise new levels of joy that demand
in turn, a receptive stillness for its appreciation. It
is to view the way ahead through a pair of perfectly curved
ears, gateway to the heart of India's spiritual and ceremonial
heritage.
The Marwari horse today is descended from the splendid war
horses that served the ruling families and warriors of feudal
India, throughout and
from the beginning of that country's history. Their status
was unparalleled, as they were declared divine and superior
to all men, including those of Royal blood. Accordingly,
only the Rajput families and the Kshatriyas - warrior caste
were permitted to mount these exalted animals.
The Marwari is a gaited horse with several gears. Other
than posting, cantering and galloping, he engages in the
REVAAL. This smooth and comfortable gait with minimal vertical
movement is used in the desert to cover long distances in
great comfort. The unique characteristic of this breed are
the remarkable curled ears which form a perfect arch when
pricked forward.

British
Domination Continues as Pippa Funnell Maintains the Lead
at Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, Presented By Bayer, April
2427
Lexington,
KYApril 26, 2003There was no change at the top
of the standings as Great Britains Pippa Funnell held
onto her lead at the 2003 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event,
Presented by Bayer, held at Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington,
KY.
By
posting one of 16 clear cross-country rounds over the test
set by Michael Etherington-Smith, Funnell, 33, added no
penalty points to her dressage score of 38.6 following the
second phase of the three-day event.
Since
my watched stopped while I was out on course, it was a fluke,
really, that I made the time, laughed Funnell, a two-time
European Champion. The whole lay-out of the Park really
allows the competitors to go out and have good run, the
course just keeps flowing.
Funnell
and Primmores Pride, a 10-year-old English thoroughbred
gelding owned by Roger and Denise Lincoln, will led the
remaining 45 of the 55-horse starting field into Sundays
final phase of stadium jumping.
Countryman
William Fox-Pitt remains hot on her heels, having also posted
a clear round to keep his score at 42.6 with Moon Man.
My
horse was fantastic, he is a very easy horse to ride,
commented Fox-Pitt, 34, who has been riding the Irish-bred
Moon Man since the horse was five.
Having
finished fourth last year at the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day
Event, Fox-Pitt will be looking to improve his placing tomorrow
during the final phase of stadium jumping.
A
change in the standings did occur when Amy Tryon of Redmond,
WA, who had been in third position, added 52 penalties to
her dressage score with My Beau to drop out of contention.
British competitor Polly Stockton, who had been lying fourth,
moved up into the top three with a two-day total of 43.4
penalty points after turning in a clear round with Tangleman.
