Show Jumping Hall of Fame Elects Eight Board Members

Tampa, FL—December 17, 2003—The Show Jumping Hall of Fame filled its Board of Directors when eight Directors were elected at its meeting on December 10.

John Ammerman, Brownlee Currey, Peter Doubleday, Larry Langer, Chrystine Tauber, and Marcia Williams were re-elected as Directors while Sally Ike and Fran Steinwedell were elected for the first time. These Directors join Elizabeth Busch Burke, Frank Chapot, David Distler, Eugene Mische, George Morris, Mason Phelps, Robert Ridland, and William Steinkraus who are in the midst of terms to give the Board the maximum 16 Directors allowed by the Show Jumping Hall of Fame Bylaws.

Ike, of Oldwick, NJ, is the Director of Show Jumping and Vaulting Activities for the U.S. Equestrian Federation. She was Chef d’Mission at the 1994 World Equestrian Games in The Hague, Holland, and Co-Chef d’Mission at the 1998 World Equestrian Games in Rome, Italy. Ike has been the U.S. Team Leader for the Show Jumping World Cup Finals since 1990 and has also served as Co-Team Leader at the 1992, 1996, and 2000 Olympic Games; 1995, 1999, and 2003 Pan American Games; and the 1990 and 2002 World Equestrian Games. Ike rode internationally in three-day eventing for the U.S. Equestrian Team in the 1960s and also serves as a show jumping course designer at many three-day events.

Steinwedell, of Village of Golf, FL, has owned many top Grand Prix horses, most notably for Olympic veteran Anne Kursinski and for her daughter Francie Steinwedell-Carvin, a successful Grand Prix rider on the West Coast who has also ridden internationally for the U.S. Equestrian Team. Among the top horses Steinwedell has owned are Livius, Kursinski’s double Gold Medal mount at the 1983 Pan American Games, and Starman, Kursinski’s 1988 Olympic team Silver Medal horse. Steinwedell is also a rider and past President of the Flintridge Riding Club in California. She was organizer of the Flintridge Horse Show and the American Grandprix Association (AGA) Grand Prix held there for many years.

The Show Jumping Hall of Fame and Museum at Busch Gardens in Tampa, FL, was established in 1987 and formally opened in 1989. It was organized to promote the sport of show jumping and to immortalize the legends of the men, women and horses who have made great contributions to the sport. The focus of this institution is to encourage broader interest and participation in show jumping, as well as to educate devoted equestrians and novice horse lovers alike, by sharing the sport’s legends, lore and landmark achievements.
