Grice and Goodman Win 2003 Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series Year-End Championships

Tampa, FL—December 2, 2003—In the Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series year-end finals held on November 30 at the National Horse Show in Wellington, FL, Danielle Grice and Marley Goodman emerged as the Junior and Amateur-Owner Champions. Each bested a field of the nation’s top horses and riders who had qualified for the Finals based on their performances in the Series throughout the year.

Grice, of Northfield, MN, rode her mount Good Karma to the win, topping a starting field of 15 horse-and-rider combinations in the $15,000 Show Jumping Hall of Fame Junior Championship. Grice produced two clear rounds on the day, including the only clear round in the jump-off. She stopped the timers in the jump-off at 40.770 seconds.

Only four horse-and-rider pairs jumped clean over the 12-obstacle first round course. Jennifer Urioste, Lara Gay, and Michael Morrissey joined Grice as the only riders to qualify for the shortened jump-off course. Urioste and Gay each had one rail down, but Urioste’s time of 40.650 seconds aboard Finesse 176 earned her the Reserve Championship. Gay and Campezino took third with 40.900 seconds. Morrissey finished fourth aboard Dame with a time of 41.118 seconds.

Marley Goodman of Palm Beach, FL, and Jumper, a horse she co-owns with Turtle Lane Farm, shone in the $15,000 Show Jumping Hall of Fame Amateur-Owner Championship. Goodman, a rider on the U.S. Equestrian Team’s 2003 Developing Rider Tour, was one of four horse-and-rider combinations out of a starting field of 17 to produce a fault-free ride in the first round.

Goodman and Erica Pritz Chesnul produced the only clear jump-off rounds on the day, but Goodman’s lightning-fast time of 40.535 seconds was nearly a full three seconds faster than that turned in by Chesnul. Chesnul’s time of 43.131 seconds aboard Eliot Du Quesnoy earned her the Reserve Championship. With eight faults each, Cayce Harrison and Alexa Weeks followed in third and fourth places, respectively. Harrison stopped the timers at 44.531 seconds aboard Jashar, and Weeks finished with a time of 44.940 seconds riding Ronan.

The Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series held classes at more than 70 horse shows across the country in 2003. The Series is designed to give amateur-owner and junior riders an opportunity to compete at higher levels, and it serves as a proving ground for many riders who aspire to someday represent the United States in international competition.
