TOP TEN FINAL IN GENEVA
The second Top Ten Final, presented by Gandini and Rolex, was
held on Saturday 14 December evening in Geneva (SUI). World number
one Ludger Beerbaum (GER) on his faithful Gladdys S, was "not
the best, but the luckiest" as he declared at the press conference
after the final, and won the Final for the second consecutive
year.
The final, disputed over two rounds (Table A for the first round
and Table A against the clock for the second round), was open
to the best 10 riders of the FEI /Gandini World Riders Rankings.
Six riders went clear on the first round. On the second round
however, only Lars Nieberg managed a clear round. Last to go,
unique female and overseas rider of this final, Leslie Howard
(USA) came very close to an historical victory, but her horse
Priobert de Kalvarie, pulled down the very last fence of the second
round and finished third behind Lars Nieberg.
Rodrigo Pessoa (BRA) won the World Cup on Sunday on Baloubet du
Rouet, and hence his qualification for the World Cup Final in
Las Vegas next April. The Swiss wild card driver Daniel Würgler
won the Driving World Cup which was held on the same day.

FEI WORLD CUP JUMPING
Pessoa is now the leader of the World Cup standings
After Geneva, the 6th of 14 World Cup competitions to be held
in Western Europe, Rodrigo Pessoa (BRA) is in the lead with 58
points, followed by Jos Lansink (BEL) with 46 and Meredith Michael-Beerbaum
(GER) with 45.
The next World Cup qualifier of the Western European League will
be London - Olympia (GBR) from 19 to 23 December.
CENTRAL AMERICAN AND CARIBBEAN GAMES
The Central American and Caribbean Games were organised in El
Salvador from. 30 November to 6 December in El Salvador, and included
competitions in the three equestrian Olympic disciplines as well
as a 80 km Endurance ride.
Eventing
A successful one star Eventing championship was organised in a
completely new installation which was developed for equestrian
sports in a wonderful site surrounded by mountains. Twenty five
combinations from five nations (El Salvador, Venezuela, Mexico,
Guatemala and Colombia) participated in the competitions. Mexico
earned the team Gold medal ahead of Guatemala and El Salvador.
Jaime Valzquez Suar on Guason (MEX) won the individual gold medal,
followed by his country fellows Erik Arambula Viveros/Fusilero
and Aurelio Quinzanos Su/J:B: Jumbles.
Jumping
Thirty-five riders from 12 countries participated in the Jumping
event. Colombia won the team gold, followed by Mexico and Guatemala.
Puerto Rican rider Mark Watring on Sapphire earned the individual
gold ahead of Enrique Gonzalez/Blue Shot Guarilo (MEX) and Carlos
Hernando Ramijez/Amazonas (COL).
Dressage
The Young Rider Individual test was used in the Individual competition.
Yvonne Losos de Muñiz won the individual gold after a remarkable
score of 70.95%, beating out Mexican riders Joachim Orth / Guido
and Bernadette Pujals/Vincent. Mexico earned the Team gold medal
with a total of 3939 points, ahead of Colombia and Dominican Republic.
Endurance
After 4.54.01 and an average speed of 16,32 km/h, Oscar Delgado/Bombas
(CRC) was the winning combination of the Endurance ride, on little
second ahead of team mate Alfredo Peralta/Faraon. 20 minutes later
Federico Herbruger/Diamante (GUA) arrived to catch the bronze.

FEI JUDICIAL COMMITTEE MEETING
The FEI Judicial Committee held a one-day meeting on 11 December
2002, in Geneva (SUI). The Chairman and all members were present
as was the FEI Secretary General, FEI Veterinary Department Manager
and the FEI Legal Manager.
A lengthy hearing took place during the morning of the meeting
and several other judicial cases were reviewed. All decisions
will be published in the FEI Bulletin in due course.
FEI judicial procedures were discussed and a representative from
the FEI's Swiss legal advisers made a very interesting presentation
on this subject. A question and answer session took place which
provided some helpful general guidelines for the Committee.
The Secretary General referred a fact-finding report on the two
Endurance horse fatalities at the WEG 2002 to the Judicial Committee
for a preliminary review from a judicial point of view. The report
had been compiled following the event by Prof Leo Jeffcott, Chairman
of the FEI Veterinary Committee, Dr Hallvard Sommerseth, Chairman
of the FEI Endurance Committee, Dr Frits Sluyter, Head of the
FEI Veterinary Department and Mr Michael Stone, FEI Sports Director.
Based on the
preliminary review of the report, the Judicial Committee requested
that two separate files be compiled and that further information
and testimonies be solicited from the key persons involved. Two
separate judicial cases would then be commenced as per FEI General
Regulations Art. 165.
