Masterfoods To Sponsor Burghley

Masterfoods, the new identity for Mars’ food and pet care businesses in the UK, has announced that it will be title sponsor of the Burghley Horse Trials in 2002 and 2003. The sponsorship will be titled the Burghley Masterfoods Horse Trials.

Mike Davies, Managing Director of Masterfoods said: “We are delighted to have signed this agreement. As a sporting occasion, Burghley Horse Trials is unequalled in its ability to provide sport and entertainment in a unique setting and is a wonderful commercial partner for Masterfoods.

Although Burghley’s previous sponsor Pedigree® is part of the Masterfoods brand portfolio, this is not the same sponsor by a different name; this is very much a new sponsorship. The other brands within the Mars group have had a small presence at Burghley during the time of the Pedigree® sponsorship but it is now our intention to increase their presence dramatically and use the event to promote the family of Masterfoods products.”

Burghley Event Director, Bill Henson said: “This is excellent news both for the event and for the sport. These are difficult times and to have secured a two-year sponsorship agreement from a company as prestigious as Masterfoods provides security for the event and is a real boost for British Eventing. We had a trying time last year as a result of the Foot and Mouth outbreak, but with the support of the public, the competitors, the sponsor and the team behind the event, we managed to put on one of the most successful Burghleys to date. I see this announcement as a reward for that mammoth support.”

Masterfoods also took the opportunity to announce that they would be continuing their sponsorship of the Pedigree Dog Agility Championships at Olympia and the Pedigree Fun Dog Agility Arena at Badminton, Bramham and Gatcombe Park.
