horse Charles Owen Children's & Adult Finals and HBO Junior Finals Winners

The Los Angeles National (November 12-16, 2003) is the final major show on the West Coast and is host to a number of prestigious medal finals. This year the show added the Charles Owen Children's, Charles Owen Adult, and HBO Junior Medal Finals to its lineup. These finals were the West Coast counterparts to those held in September at the National Finals Horse Show held in Worcester, MA.

Haley Listwin of Los Altos Hills, CA captured the Charles Owen Children's Medal Finals. Second after the first round, Listwin put in a decisive second round and led going into the work off. She held on to that lead and captured the championship. "It was a really testing course," said Listwin. "I am so happy and excited. One of my aims this year was coming to this medal finals. I've never done a big finals before."

Listwin gives much credit to her horse, Cossiga, that she calls "Neo" around the barn. "I really like the movie The Matrix and Neo is so super and athletic...like my horse. She also credits her trainer, John Charlebois, for her successes. "John makes the lessons fun, even boring flat work is fun and interesting." Second to Listwin was Nicoletta Von Heidegger.

Yvette Lang-Einczig of Malibu, CA led from start to finish in the Charles Owen Adult Finals. She is a very successful amateur rider and regularly wins in the highly competitive amateur equitation division. She was circuit champion in the Amateur Equitation at the 2003 HITS Indio Desert Circuit and will capture her third USA Equestrian Adult Equitation high score award. To prove her win was not a fluke, Lang-Einczig also won the LA National Equitation Championship the afternoon of her Charles Owen victory. "This is a great wrap to the year," said Lang-Einczig.

Lang-Einczig credits the rigorous training program at DiAnn Langer's Langtree. "Riding different horses helps," stated Lang-Einczig "and the training program is intense. DiAnn, Kirsten (Coe) and Tara (Metzner) are phenomenal. Also, competing against so many top amateurs is a constant challenge." Marnye Langer finished in the second position.

Rebecca Bruce of Santa Barbara, CA capped off a stellar junior season by winning the HBO Junior Medal Finals. The previous week she won the LAHSA Junior Medal Finals at the National Preview and then repeated her performance in the HBO Finals. "It's really exciting to do so well, especially with a new horse," stated Bruce, referring to Nottingham the horse she bought in Europe a little over a month ago. "I didn't think I'd do him in the finals, but at each show he got better and better.
