THE BRITISH APPALOOSA SOCIETY

(Established in 1976)

IN THIS MODERN WORLD WE CANNOT AFFORD TO STAND STILL AND DWELL IN THE PAST

WE MUST MOVE ON!

The British Appaloosa Society is now re-positioning itself in order to develop high quality Appaloosa horses to meet the highly demanding requirements in the modern UK, European and World equine markets.

TO THIS END NEW IMPROVED BREED STANDARDS HAVE BEEN INTRODUCED

QUALITY STALLIONS

A stallion licensing scheme which embraces not only a high quality veterinary examination but also a vigorous conformation assessment to produce high quality stallions for both the production of quality Appaloosa and Part-Bred Appaloosa offspring.

PURITY of BREEDING

The restriction of registration to only Appaloosa to Appaloosa bred animals in our Main Registers to form a true Appaloosa Breed.

OUTCROSSING

To continue to encourage of the use of the Appaloosa as an outcross and to register the Part-Bred stock.

EQUALITY in SHOWING

Equality of the rights of any animal with full Appaloosa to Appaloosa breeding to have the right to be shown and bred on pedigree alone and not to be affected by any artificially imposed restrictions.

This new direction has not been without pain a number of our members disagreed with this decision and have formed a new Appaloosa organisation While we regret that this new organisation has been set up but we respect their right in doing so.

The British Appaloosa Society welcomes all true Appaloosa Horse breeders’ and owners to continue to share with us in the breeding of, the promotion and competing with, this great and wonderfully versatile breed the Appaloosa Horse.
