Mercedes-Benz National Dressage Champion |
British
Olympic dressage rider and 2003 European Bronze Medallist, Richard
Davison has today become the 2003 Mercedes-Benz National Dressage
Champion at this year's Mercedes-Benz National Dressage Championships
at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire. Davison achieved a British
Grand Prix Freestyle record score of 77.21% which, added to his
earlier Grand Prix score of 71.08, won him the championship title
on a total score of 148.29.
Davison
was riding his 13 year old mare, Ballaseyr Royale who is owned
by Mr and Mrs Meyer and was his partner in the European Championships
at Hickstead in August this year when the British Team qualified
for next year's Olympics in Athens. "It is the most exciting
national competition I have ever taken part in" said Richard
afterwards. "The competition was excellent and it was a close
run thing".
This
year's runner up was 2001 Mercedes-Benz National Dressage Champion,
Peter Storr who put in a spectacular performance in the Grand
Prix Freestyle to Music class to move up from third place after
the Grand Prix to achieve a combined total of 145.42 on Mrs Pinky
Heintz's, Gambrinus, narrowly beating fellow international competitor,
Carl Hester riding Escapado on 142.92 who also finished in sixth
place with his other horse, Kate Carter's Donnersong.
Richard
Davison has represented Britain internationally for many years
but due to his foreign commitments this is the first time he has
competed in the National Dressage Championships since 1997. It
brings the year to a fantastic end for Richard who claims he only
entered the competition because he wanted to win the prize of
a Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class Roadster to drive for the year. "If
they keep giving cars away I'll definitely be back", he said.
