Mounted Games World Pairs

The 11th World Mounted Games Pairs Championship, organised by the Mounted Games Association of Great Britain, was held at Newark Showground, Notts (28-29 September 2002), where representatives from eight countries were forward for three classes. After three qualifying sessions the top 16 came forward for the semi finals where the top eight scores went forward for the grand final.

Taking the open title were the newly married Christian and Felicty Hotson Jones riding Pebbles and Laura, who triumped over Elaine Trevor Jones and Helen Green by one point. Based in West Sussex, they are part of Sussex, which won the British champions competition at Stoneleigh in August.

Christian was part of the victorious Welsh team which won the World Team Championship at Fontwell in July, while Felicty won the Midland Individual Championships earlier this year. They both rode at the 2001 World Team Championships in Canada, Christian riding for Wales and Felicty riding for England.
Elaine, who rides for Shropshire, is a previous World Pairs champion was making a welcome, albeit late, return to competition after missing most of the year after an leg operation.

Taking the under 17 title was Hannah Hopkins and Lester Brown, who finished five points in front of Hannah's sisters Natasha and Keri. Hannah, who finished third in the under 15 World Individual competition, and Lester dominated the competition finishing the qualifying session with the highest score.
In the under 12 mini section Shayla McNulty and Chloe Golding finished in front by 10 points to win. Shayla and Chloe were favourites before the competition as Shayla is the current under 12 world individual champion, and Chloe the bronze medalist of that competition.
