horse Connaught Region Show Jumping Finals For Young Horses October 11 - 14

Connaught Region Show Jumping Finals for Young Horses takes place this weekend from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th October in Glenamaddy Equestrian Centre, Co. Galway.

Action gets underway on Friday and Saturday at 9.00 a.m. with qualifying rounds for the finals on Sunday. Thirty horses will qualify for each final - 1.10m, 1.20m and 1.30m - and all three Championships will carry a prize fund of €3,000.

The weekend's show jumping boasts a prize fund of €13,000 and will attract top riders from around the country. Expected to attend are last week's Grand Prix winner Robert Splaine and riders recently returned from World Championships for Young Horses – David Moore, John McGuinness, Paul Duffy and Gabriel Slattery, Leading Rider in Glenamaddy last weekend.

There is a Novelty Event on Saturday night with €1,000 being donated to Charity.

<Search for a Star 2002>, jointly sponsored by Ireland's Horse Review and Rockcliffe Stud, will be selected at the finals on Sunday. This is aimed specifically at encouraging and improving young riders with potential. Young stars like Olive Clarke - Golden Saddle winner, Andrew Bourns – RDS Bursary winner, Deane Rogan – recently returned from a stint with Tim Stockdale, Richard Kerins and Stephen Egan – regulars on the National Circuit must surely be in consideration.

The winner will be receive their prize at the Connaught Region Ball at the end of November. The prize includes a perpetual trophy, €500, publicity and a placement with an International Rider.

All in all a great weekend's show jumping is anticipated at Glenamaddy.
