CHAPS SHOW 7 - 9 SEPTEMBER 2001

EXPRESS STEAMS AHEAD!

The perfect Skewbald Shetland stallion - Butterby Express excelled this weekend at the Chaps UK International Show at Southview Equestrian Centre in Cheshire by holding his own amongst some of the best coloured horses and ponies in the country.

The spoils were shared on Saturday in hand by 14 year old Craig Chadwick from Catterick Garrison and on Sunday ridden to victory in the Horse of the Year Show Native, Traditional under 13hands qualifier by 14 year old Kaye Gilligan from Colburn.
On Saturday, Express won the Shetland Class: the Small Native, Traditional Qualifier Final: 2nd and Reserve Champion in the Graded Stallion and Colt Class: and also stood Reserve Champion in the Native, Traditional Cob class 14.2. and under to the fabulous Mr. Moses.

On Sunday he won the coveted Horse of the Year Qualifier in the shetland, native and traditional under 13.0 class.

Butterby Express - 5 years old - bred and owned by Linda and Keith Hutchings of Butterby Shetlands from Croxdale in Durham was broken and produced by Knix Stud for last years International in only 2 weeks! - when he stood 3rd in the Wembley class ridden by Craig Chadwick. He's been back to Team Knix for just 3 weeks after a season running with his mares, to be produced for the show under Craig again but unfortunately he grew too tall too quickly and handed the ride over to school and stable mate Kaye Gilligan who had the little grey shetland gelding Riccalton Pewter in the Simpson Refractories Mountain and Moorland at Wembley last year. Both Kaye and Craig are pupils at Risedale Community College at Hipswell, Catterick Garrison and have both been Olympia winners in the Shetland Pony Grand National.

The Butterby Stud are also represented at Olympia this year when 16 year old RHAPSODY OF BUTTERBY owned and trained by Karen Nixon of Knix Stud will be in the Shetland Pony Grand National ridden by 10 year old Laura Gray of Brafferton who qualified at Lambeth Country Fair in south-east London in July.
