horse The Bowmore Blair Castle International Horse Trials and Country Fair

Blair Atholl, Perthshire
Thursday 23rd - Sunday 26th August 2001

THE BOWMORE BLAIR CASTLE HORSE TRIALS

The Bowmore Blair Castle International Horse Trials is Scotland’s leading equestrian event, but a spectacular Country Fair and vast tented village have helped turn the show into something much, much more. An event which shouldn't be missed by anyone with an interest in the countryside, horses or shopping!

The first day of the event saw both Ridden and Working Hunters shown in the Banvie arena. Mr George Blaikie designed some fantastic Working Hunter courses which tested both horse ad rider at all levels. Judges Mr David Gatherer, Mrs Jane Reid, Mr David Reid, Mr G. Mitchell and Mr James Munro were very impressed at the standard of entry.

The results were as follows:

Ridden Hunter:

Lightweight - 1st Hilary MacTaggart (Millinzi Architect), 2nd Maggie Inglis (Aberandy), 3rd Sophie Finch (Special Pal)

Small Hunter - 1st Samantha Cloy (Irish Fayre), 2nd Mary Alexander (Hope), 3rd Jennifer Adams (Toohey)

Middle heavyweight - 1st Helen Hughes (Last of the Blues), 2nd Magnus Nicholson (Inch Keith), 3rd Gilly McCowan (Ballyquirke)

Working Hunter:

Novice - 1st Nicky Roncoroni (Rathurtin Gent), 2nd Karen Relly (Sergeant Stryker), 3rd Sophie Finch (Special Pal)

Intermediate - 1st Sasha Smith (The Lambada), 2nd R. Bowling (Kings Flight), 3rd Robert Wilson (Regal Time)

BHS (Scotland) Final - 1st Drew Ritchie (Rockhill Ramona), 2nd Lynn Waters (Pitmedden Wilco), 3rd Jenny Forbes Kebell (Lavally Hero)

Horse of The Year Show Qualifier - 1st R. Bowling (Beinn Bhan) (already qualified), 2nd David Da Silve (Kildalton Lion( (qualifier), 3rd Mary Alexander (Hope)

The Highland Pony Show in the Country Fair arena was very well attended. The Highland Ponies of the Blair Castle Stud can also be seen in the Country Fair Arena on Friday. The Country Fair arena schedule for Friday 24th also offers the chance to see Eriskay Ponies, Clydesdales and Icelandic Horses in action along with a Side Saddle Riding display including Beethoven the Shetland.

Don't miss The House of Menzies Showjumpers / Eventers Challenge!

Held in the Banvie Arena following the BSJA show jumping, this event is guaranteed to be well worth watching as teams of eventers and show jumpers compete.
