Shamrock Stays Slim and Healthy At twenty-nine years old, Shamrock is not beyond acting up a little. Occasionally, her owner Janet Alder finds herself being towed in from the field as Shamrock races to get to her dinner. But Janet doesn't mind, this is a long-term relationship, built on over twenty-two years of mutual love and trust. When Janet first bought Shamrock, the horse had a background of neglect from a previous owner but Janet's patient perseverance paid off and now Shamrock is a relaxed, healthy horse who, even at her ripe old age, still enjoys five mile hacks four days a week!

Several years ago, Janet, her farrier and her vet got together to devise a feeding plan for Shamrock, who had had a mild attack of laminitis. They recommended that Shamrock be kept on a low sugar and starch diet, especially as she has a tendency to become overweight.
