USTPA National Finals to Offer $600,000 in Prize Package

Estimated total purse of $500,000 cash available with $60,000-added guaranteed

(Wichita Falls, Texas) – The United States Team Penning Association (USTPA) will host its annual National Finals in Amarillo, Texas, November 4-8 and brings to the table more than $600,000 in cash and prizes, making it one of the richest competitions in the horse industry.

Team penning requires a team of three riders to select three like-numbered cattle from a herd of 30 and move them to a small pen at the opposite end of the arena within as little as a sixty second time period. Cattle in the herd are numbered 0 to 9, with three cattle bearing each of those numbers. A number glued to their backs indicates the selected cattle. The USTPA, the largest not-for-profit team penning association in North America, represents a membership of more than 6,000 team penning enthusiasts and manages, through USTPA Productions, team pennings that offer more than $1.2 million in cash and prizes annually.

The National Finals will offer $60,000-guaranteed added money with a total estimated cash purse of $500,000, along with titles to five Hart trailers, and a plethora of Circle Y saddles and Maynard buckles. Wrangler®, TransWest Trucks and Coors also sponsors the event.

“This is the highlight of our year at USTPA and Amarillo serves as an excellent host,” said USTPA President Ronnie Gebauer. “Their facility is one of the best in the country, Amarillo is centrally located, and the people of Amarillo have welcomed us with open arms.”

Competition will begin November 4 with exciting rounds of Open rider teams followed by Pro-Am, Pro-Am-Novice, Novice and Youth competitions. Coors will also host a cookout for all competitors to kick-off the weeklong event. More than 1,500 3-rider teams are expected to attend the event that is being held for the third year in Amarillo in its Amarillo National Center. The Center, completed in 2000, includes an arena with 5,000 fixed seats, 150’ x 300’ floor and 55,000 sq. ft. of auxiliary space for livestock, horses, or exhibits. Previously, the event was held in Wichita Falls, Texas, headquarters to the USTPA.
