and USA Equestrian Announce Changes to 2002 World Equestrian
Games Show Jumping Team Selection Procedures

NJ—July 12, 2002—The United States Equestrian Team (USET)
and USA Equestrian (USAE) have approved two procedural changes
to the Show Jumping Selection Procedures for the 2002 World Equestrian
Games, which will be held in Jerez, Spain this September.
The organizations announced that the Jumping Order for Selection
Trial #5 will be in the inverse order of standing after Selection
Trial #4. The start order for Selection Trial #6 will be in inverse
order of faults from Selection Trial #5.
The
organizations have also announced stricter security between Selection
Trials at Del Mar and San Juan Capistrano. The horses will be
under continuous security watch beginning 48 hours prior to Selection
Trial #1 at Del Mar and lasting until the conclusion of Selection
Trial #6 at CSI-A San Juan Capistrano, on Sunday, July 28, 2002,
unless the horse withdraws from the Trials prior to that time.
“We
are pleased with these modifications to the WEG Selection Procedures,”
said the USET Director of Show Jumping, Sally Ike. “The goal
is to have riders and owners fully aware of every detail of how
the selection procedure will run prior to the start of the first
trial,” she added.
