Shoeing Competition
Saturday 27 July, at ILPH Glenda Spooner Farm, Hoarwithy

Thanks to the generosity of its sponsors the ILPH (International League for the Protection of Horses) will be holding a Shoeing Competition at its Herefordshire Equine Recovery and Rehabilitation Centre, near Hoarwithy, on Saturday 27 July.

Two classes are scheduled. The first, Apprentice Shoe Making, starts at 10am prompt and the second, Live Shoeing, starts around 11.15.

All work to be carried out in the gas forges and on the anvils supplied on the day on site. Nails, vices, etc to be supplied by the competitors.

Andrew Harrison, Partner at Kearns & Rea and Vivien McIrvine MBE, ILPH Vice President, will be awarding the prizes at approximately 5 pm. There will be prize
money to fourth place in each class and special awards for the Best Dressed Foot and Best Specimen Shoe.

Comments Janet Dale, ILPH Centre Manger, "There is an old adage 'No foot no horse', and it is, unfortunately, very true. Too often we see horses and ponies coming
into our centres with horrendous foot problems that could have been avoided by regular visits from a registered farrier.

"At the ILPH we like to encourage good practice so we are very pleased to be able to hold this Shoeing Competition. Our sincere thanks must go out to Mark Evans, Dip WCF, our Judge, Chief Steward Ron Gwilliam, RSS and the generosity of our sponsors, without whom the event would not have be possible."

All enquiries and entries to Mrs. S. Heathfield, 2 Pound Cottage, Yarkhill, Hereford HR1 3TA, tel 01432 890374.

The public are invited along to watch the competition and entry for them is free.
Grateful acknowledgement to the sponsors, Three Counties Equine Hospital (Kearns & Rea), Mr. C. Swann, Breakaway Horse Shoes, Handmade Shoes UK and Jim
Blurton.
