Executive Board Meeting

The Executive Board met on 12 June 2002 in London (GBR). Among the main topics discussed were the following:

- Central European Driving Challenge
In order to further develop Driving the Executive Board approved the creation of a Central European Driving Challenge beginning in 2003. The countries involved are Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Romania, Croatia and Poland.

- Regional Championship of Central Asia
The Executive Board accepted the creation of a Regional Championship of Central Asia to be held in 2003 in Kazakhstan. The Championship will include Jumping and Dressage. Exact dates will be confirmed at a later stage.

- CSI Event Categorisation
Further to the recommendation of the Jumping Committee and its working group, the Executive Board approved a new CSI categorisation system for the 2003 season. The events will be categorised according to prize money.
In addition, it was agreed to change the categorisation of CSIOs as follows: the current CSIO four-star events will become CSIO five-star events and the current three-star events will become CSIO four-star events. The system for one and two-star events will remain unchanged. A new three-star category will be introduced.
The new system is expected to bring the CSIO star system in line with the CSI system.

- Course Designer at the 2002 World Cup Final in Leipzig (GER)
On the recommendation of the Jumping Committee, the FEI Executive Board suspended the "O" status of the course designer Mr Frank Rothenberger (GER) .This decision was taken based on Mr Rothenberger's involvement during a training session of German riders prior to the 2002 World Cup Final in Leipzig (GER). Mr Rothenberger can, however, continue to function as an International Course Designer at international events with the exception of World Championships and Olympic Games.
An International Course Designer may be promoted to the status of Official International Course Designer by the Bureau on the recommendation of the Jumping Committee, which shall be based on extensive experience and demonstrated proficiency at high level competitions (rules for Jumping events, Annex XIII)

- Dressage Rule Changes
On the recommendation of the Dressage Committee the Executive Board approved rule changes for Dressage events. They relate to the regulation of the publicity on arena fence, the failure of music during a Freestyle and the starting order for competitions were riders had to qualify (Art, 429.2, 429.12 and 425.8).
Several amendments to the Rules for the World Cup in Dressage for the season 2002/2003 were approved. They relate to articles 480, 483, 486, 487 and 488. For all qualifying events and League Finals, the final classification will be determined by the placings in the Kür, as it is at the Final. The wild card attribution will be broadened.
The rule changes will be published in the next FEI Bulletin and on the FEI website.

- World Championship for Young Horses in Dressage – Verden
The Executive Board allocated the World Breeding Championship for Young Horses in Dressage for the years 2003-2005 to Verden (GER)

- 2002 Dressage Championship of the Americas
The Executive Board approved the allocation of the 2002 Dressage Championship of The Americas to Blainville (CAN) on 17-21 July.
The next meting of the Executive Board is scheduled during the World Equestrian Games in Jerez (ESP) in September.

Berlin & Aarhus in World Cup Calendar for one more year

The Executive Board of the FEI decided to include Aarhus and Berlin in the FEI World Cup Calendar in the 2002 / 2003 season. The Executive Board considered new aspects not known to the World Cup Working Group when it met in Leipzig on 06 May 2002. Berlin and Aarhus are included in the 2002 / 2003 season only, thus bringing the number of events to 15. The World Cup status given to Berlin for this coming season depends, however, on the events dislocation from the Velodrome to the Mess halls. In the 2003 / 2004 season there will be 13 events, of which one will organise the Final.

CIC World Cup Will Be Launched In August

The FEI has developed an Eventing World Cup based on CICs (One-Day Events) to commence 1st August 2002.

The CIC World Cup is organized as on a Three-star level CIC competition, with three-star level qualifiers and a three-star level final.

Qualifying competitions will be held for a full calendar year starting 1st August 2002 and ending 31 August 2003.

CONFIRMED EVENTS FOR 2002

Subject to contractual negotiations the following events will host a CIC-W Qualifier during the timescale August 1st 2002 to December 31st 2002.

2 – 4 August Gatcombe Park, Great Britain.

16 – 18 August Ribersborg, Malmö, Sweden.

23 – 25 August Martinvast – Cherbourg, France.

8 – 10 November Nichelino-Torino, Italy.

2003 QUALIFIERS

The qualifiers for the period January 1st 2003 and August 1st 2003 will be decided upon at a meeting of the CIC World Cup Sub-Committee at le Lion D’Angers (FRA) in France on Sunday 20th October 2002.

Countries wishing to host a qualifier for this period must apply through their NFs in writing to the FEI Eventing Office prior to 1 August 2002.

2003 FINAL

The first final will take place in Pau (FRA) 23-26 October 2003 subject to contractual negotiations.

The rules of the World Cup will be published on the FEI Bulletin 3/02 and on the FEI website.

FEI Children's International Jumping Competition Final

The 2002 Final of the FEI Children’s International Jumping Competition will take place in Brasilia (BRA) from 2 to 8 December 2002.

FEI Waldfried Euro Future Cup Final

The second Final of the FEI Waldfried Euro Future Cup will be held in Frankfurt (GER) from 12 to 15 December 2002.

The FEI Walfdried Euro Future Cup is a Dressage Series aimed at Young Riders in Western and Central Europe which includes six events and a Final. With the support of Walfried Dressage Stables, and the FEI Development Fund, riders from the Central European Region are invited to participate in Western European events. Central European events also received financial help.

Samsung Nations Cup Preview

Germany is still in the lead of the Samsung Nations Cup Series with 51 points ahead of Belgium with 48 points. The Leading Horse is still Carling King (IRL) of Kevin Babington. Cian O’Connor (IRL) is now the Leading Rider with 9 points.

This week-end, seven nations will participate in the Samsung Nations Cup of CSIO Drammen (NOR) on Saturday 22 June: Belgium, Denmark, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Germany. The firs round will start at 13:00 and the second is scheduled at approx. 14:30.

CSIO Ikast Replaced By CSIO Vilhelmsborg (Den)

Further to the cancellation of CSIO***/CDIO*** Ikast, the Danish CSIO***/CDI*** will be held in Vilhelmsborg – Aahrus, from 1 to 4 August.

In Memoriam

The Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein mourns the death of Hans Nicolaus Gilljam (GER) who passed away on 8 June 2002 at the age of 71. Member of the CHIO Aachen association ALRV since 1952, he acted as volunteer in various position at Aachen’s event and became a member of the Association in 1965. Since 1993, he belonged to the Executive Board of the ALRV. With a great deal of personal commitment, heart and enthusiasm he contributed to the development of the “World Equestrian Festival – CHIO Aachen”.

FEI Event Veterinarian Roger F. Johnson (GBR) passed away on 26 May 2002. Mr. Johnson was a Testing Vet in the FEI Medication Control Programme (MCP) for more than 10 years. Popular with both participants and organisers thanks to his friendly fashion, Roger F. Johnson used to perform the doping control at competitions together with his wife Dinah, also a veterinarian.

News From Russia

CDI ***, 4-6 July 2002, Moscow (RUS)

A CDI*** will take place in Moscow (RUS) from 4 through 6 July 2002. Riders representing Austria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia and Ukraine will participate in it. Anky van Grunsven (NED), European champion in 1999 and Olympic champion in Sydney 2000, Arjen Teeuwissen (NED), Lone Jorgensen (DEN) or Rudolf Zeilinger (GER), many time World and European championships, will be among the competitors.

This event will provide the host country with the opportunity to display its rich equestrian tradition in sports and breeding. It will be held at the Central Moscow Hippodrome, founded almost 170 years ago and which is on of the oldest and most prestigious structures of its kind in Europe. Prizes will be given out by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, patron of the event.
