EQUESTRIAN WORK PROVIDES FUNDS FOR HUMANITARIAN PROJECTS IN THE MID 90'S

Few realize, that when Stephen Apatow, opened his specialized work in biomechanics for veterinary and equestrian applications in Northern Nevada, that this work provided financial resources for the strategic planning and project development of humanitarian initiatives across the United States. After leaving the pursuit of international competition for cross country skiing and rowing and the completion of a Run Across America project in 1993, Apatow found himself in Northern Nevada working with Aimee Fulper, a student at the University of Nevada, Reno, Nevada 4-H Ambassador from 1990-92. This scope of this collaborative effort would encompass the development of projects which would bridge unmet needs to untapped community resources for frontline service programs across the United States and eventual formation of the non-profit organization Humanitarian Resource Institute in 1994.

During this time, funding challenges associated with the operation of Humanitarian Resource Institute, led Apatow to open his specialized work in the field of biomechanics that was developed to enhance the flexibility and technical performance of dancers in Soviet ballet training into the equestrian community. This work gained international recognition in 1990, when dancer Cheryl Madeux excelled at the Lausanne International Ballet Competition (Switzerland) and was selected as a Presidential Scholar in the Arts, performing for President Bush at the White House. Shortly thereafter, this work was adapted for athletes in multi-sport and olympic development programs. During the last two decades, at the request of the medical community, the analysis, correction and retraining program has been applied to musculo-skeletal disorders which include entrapment neuropathies, Scoliosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Asthma, Fibromyalgia, Frederick's Ataxia, Multiple Sclerosis and veterinary applications.

Since opening this work into the equestrian industry in 1994, equestrian programs have been developed and organized throughout the United States through the SportBallet Consulting Group. Mr. Apatow is also the founder of SMAMedia Communications and currently is director of international research and project development.
