Tahoe HITS Doubles Prize Money for Week IV of HITS Tahoe 2001 Horse Show

SAUGERTIES, NY (June 7, 2001)--Horse Shows In The Sun, Inc. has announced that prize money for Week IV of HITS Tahoe in Minden, Nevada, is double this year. "Rather than hold the $100,000 Grand Prix and other big purse classes during Week V, which was a B-rated show last year, we will run HITS Tahoe as a four-week, all A-rated circuit," stated Tom Struzzieri, owner and president of HITS. "It was our intention to have five A-rated weeks, but since the last week of AHSA dates is not available this year, we will do the four A-rated shows only, with double the prize money in Week IV." HITS Tahoe 2001 will run from June 27 through July 22.

HITS Tahoe features nearly 300 hunter, jumper, and equitation classes each week for four weeks including a $15,000 Open Jumper Prix every Friday, a $50,000 Grand Prix on three consecutive Sundays, and the $100,000 Rio Vista Grand Prix as the finale of the circuit on July 22. The $25,000 Junior/Amateur Owner Jumper Classic will also be held on Sunday, July 22. More than $800,000 in total prize money will be awarded during the four-week circuit.

Adding to the grand finale festivities on July 22, HITS Tahoe is introducing a Seniors Day with a "Turn of the Century" theme and a host of activities for people of all ages. Presented by Douglas County Senior Services, Seniors Day kicks off at 8am with a 5K Run and Fun Walk. Prizes will be awarded in all age divisions, from youngsters to seniors. A Horse Shoe Tournament for seniors begins at 9am. And from 10am to 1pm Seniors Day will feature a 1900s Costume Contest, horse and buggy rides, barbershop quartets, Health Fair exhibits, and Library Materials Displays. At 1pm country music star Lacy J. Dalton will sing the National Anthem in the Grand Prix ring prior to the start of the $100,000 Rio Vista Grand Prix. More than 30 riders from Canada, Europe, Mexico and the U.S. are expected to compete for this high stakes purse. Winners of the Fun Walk and 5K Run will be invited to participate in the awards ceremonies for the $100,000 Rio Vista Grand Prix. Highlights of all the Seniors Day events will be filmed for DCCATV.

HITS Tahoe Horse Show is in action Wednesday through Sunday from 8am until approximately 4pm. Spectators are admitted free Wednesday through Saturday. Tickets are $5 on Sunday with the proceeds benefiting local charities. Children under 12 are always admitted at no charge and parking is always free. The HITS food service facility offers an international menu of meals, snacks, and beverages. Vendor Row on Main Street of the show grounds is lined with more than a dozen shops offering equine-themed merchandise from tack to 14K gold jewelry. Bleacher seating is available at all of the rings. More than 10,000 spectators are expected to visit HITS Tahoe during the circuit.
