horse Rescued Horse to be a Star
Bob the Cob came to the ILPH (International League for the Protection of Horses) Norfolk Centre last year as a half starved 2 year old barely able to walk.
One year on Bob, who is now owned by the ILPH, is barely recognisable. He has doubled his body weight and is well on his way to becoming a star.
For Bob the Cob is to be immortalised by the toy company Julip Horses Ltd. featuring in their latest gift set, due out this summer, with his friend Liz.
Says Annabel Davies, Managing Director at Julip, "When Liz Hatten, ILPH Shows and Promotions Manager, suggested Bob as a model I was thrilled to bits as the ILPH is Julip’s favourite charity and we have always wanted to do one of their horses !"

Catskills Olympian Margie Engle Wins $10,000 Welcome Stake At HITS Catskills Season Opener
ELLENVILLE, NY (May 23, 2001)--Olympian Margie Engle, 43, of Wellington, Florida, riding Reggae bested a field of 21 riders at HITS Catskills in Ellenville, New York, today, to win the $10,000 Open Jumper Welcome Stake on opening day of the six-event summer series. Engle also placed fourth with Hidden Creek's Alvaretto, her mount from the World Cup Final in Sweden last month. Reggae's win today brought home $3,000 for owner Robert Pergament. Paul Duffy of Claregalway, Ireland, was the course designer.
Rain had soaked the show grounds since Monday, but the all-weather rings withstood the downpours. "The footing is great," commented Engle. "With this rain, most places would have been a real mess. You didn't see any of the horses slipping or having trouble with the footing. It held up really nice." Course Designer Duffy said that he did not have to adjust his design to accommodate the rain. "These sand arenas actually jump better with a lot of rain. If the weather's fine, we water them to keep them compacted. The footing was absolutely perfect today."

horse Sponsored Ride Raises £300 for Horse Welfare
It felt like a new beginning when after the constraints of the Foot and Mouth restrictions several like minded people met at the Cattle Market in Wadebridge for a sponsored ride in aid of the International League for the Protection of Horses (ILPH).
Wonderfully organised by Pat Knight and her husband Malcolm and ably supported by Rose and Sally who administered the paperwork and escorted the riders, the ride covered some 20 miles through gloriously sunny countryside. The lunch break in a paddock kindly supplied by a local farmer was a huge success with Pat’s gang of helpers producing good Cornish fare for the, by then, ravenous riders.

A Horse, of Course
with Don Blazer
I peeked into Walter’s stall, just out of curiosity. There was a lot of movement going on in there.
Walter, a horse, of course, had his day sheet over his ears and twisted around and draped across his right shoulder. He was looking at himself in a mirror and striking different poses. He grabbed the sheet in his mouth and flipped it back so it slid down his neck. Then grabbing the fabric at his chest, he pulled the sheet up his chest. He looked at himself, but appeared unsatisfied.
horse
"What’s going on?" I asked.
He looked a little embarrassed, then replied, "I’m trying to create a new fashion look," he said.

horse equiworld.net Invests in Video WebCasting Technology
/archive/equiworld-net/video/ewvideo.exe
Equiworld today announced the introduction of a range of enhancements to their already popular video streaming and webcasting services. The key to the enhancements is the installation of computer software written specially for Equiworld to manage video streams.
Equiworld's Peter Asprey explained that the software has become increasing necessary to manage in real time the availability of video streams. Peter explained the software is built round a database which allows the equiworld.net team to quickly change how video is made available to the users.
Take for example our live webcasting service, the live video stream is normally only available for a set period of time during the event. Archive footage is normally only added when the team return to the office. The new software allows users to bookmark a single URL which before the event might for example link them to a promotional video. Then during the live event route them to the live video. As soon as the event is over the system switches them over to a highlights package, or even a re-run of the days live action.

horse .It's Hard to Get Back to Basics When You Haven't Been There to Start
I was interviewing a prospective student the other day - the very proficient youth-pleasure-trail-horsemanship rider who just wanted to "get a certificate" so she could "get a job as a trainer" type - the type whom I have seen so often. I was explaining, as carefully as I could, that the skills produced by a program are what give a "certificate" its value.
Toward that end I mentioned some of the specific exercises and lessons needed to transform her show ring expertise into professionally marketable products. About half way into my thousand-time rehearsed explanation, her mother piped up with, "In other words, honey, you have to go back to the basics."
"Pardon me," I wish I had said, "but you don't have to go back to basics when you have never been up to basics in the first place."
