Marilyn Little and Charlie Jayne Lead Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series East Conference Following Florida Events

 

Tampa, FL – April 8, 2002 – After six exciting member events held in the East Conference in February and March, Marilyn Little and Charlie Jayne stand atop the 2002 Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series Leader Board. The series kicked off in February and runs through November, culminating in the first-ever Year End Championship to be held at the National Horse Show.

In the first competition of the month of March, the $15,000 Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic, held during the Tommy Bahama Open, February 27- March 3 in Wellington, FL, Kate Bomgaars and Jupiter came away with the blue ribbon. Second went to Judy Garofalo and Kartouche, with third place going to Robert Kraut aboard Athletico. In the $15,000 BET on Jazz Junior Jumper Classic, Anna McKnight picked up both the first and second place ribbons on Marina and Maeva, respectively. Third place went to Paige Johnson with Reddy Teddy. For the first time this year, the Show Jumping Hall of Fame is offering separate series for amateur-owner riders and for junior riders.

In the $15,000 Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic, held in Wellington, FL during the Cosequin Wellington Finale, March 6-10, current Series Leader Marilyn Little aboard Corrada rode away with the win. Second went to Jennifer Hoctor with Narew and third to Louise Otten and Battleskin William. In the $15,000 BET on Jazz Junior Jumper Classic, Paige Johnson and Just Dreamin’ emerged victorious. Cody Baird aboard Baby Grand placed second and Michael Morrissey aboard Laser placed third.

At the Suncoast Internationale, held March 13-17 in Tampa, FL, a combined $10,000 Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic was held. Junior rider Charlie Jayne and Melbourne took the win, with Z-Max and Meghan Moran in second and Highfly and Eliza Shuford in third.

In the $10,000 Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic held at the Tampa Bay Classic in Tampa, FL, March 20-24, Jonathan Phillips and Jewel’s Idiam claimed first place. Gina Mancuso and Petranella and Danielle Torano and Von Pilot placed second and third respectively. In the $10,000 BET on Jazz Junior Jumper Classic, Michael Morrissey and Gera took home the win. Second went to Melbourne and Charlie Jayne and third place went to Golden-Boy 6 and Derek Braun.

In the final Show Jumping Hall of Fame Series event of March, the Tournament of Champions, held in Tampa, FL, March 28-31, Emily Watson and Meatrine, emerged victorious in the $10,000 Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic. Second went to the current Series leader, Marilyn Little aboard Corrado. Gina Mancuso and Petranella earned third place. In the $10,000 BET on Jazz Junior Jumper Classic, Series Leader Charlie Jayne and Melbourne captured first place honors for the second time of the month. Jayne’s sister, Maggie, aboard Jubilent, placed second and Evan Coluccio on White Russian were third.

The Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series, which is sponsored in part by a grant from the National Horse Sports Foundation, holds classes at 51 horse shows across the country. The Series is designed to give Amateur-Owner and Junior riders an opportunity to compete at higher levels and serves as a proving ground for many riders who aspire to someday represent the United States in international competition.
