EFI URGES VIGILANCE ON FMD OUTBREAK

The Equestrian Federation of Ireland today (March 22) called for extra vigilance from its members in light of the confirmed outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease in Co. Louth.

The EFI recommended last month that all equestrian shows, events, horse trials, training courses and all unnecessary movement of animals should be cancelled until further notice.

The appearance of Foot and Mouth disease in Co. Louth today is a very serious development for the whole country, and we urge all those connected with the equestrian industry in Ireland to exercise the utmost vigilance in helping to contain this disease, said Col. Ned Campion, Secretary-General of the EFI. The unnecessary movement of horses should be strongly discouraged, and we would ask all of our members, especially those based in rural areas, to continue to carry out their business with appropriate caution.

More information about FMD is available through the Press section of the
EFI¹s website http://www.horsesport.ie
