In response to the FMD crisis from:

THE SHOW JUMPERS CLUB
Promoting the Sport of Showjumping

The Inaugural AGM of the Showjumpers Club, which was due to take place on March 29, 2001, has been cancelled due to the Foot & Mouth disease. In relation to the restrictions imposed on the movement of horses, the Club has put forward a proposal to the Government in an effort to resume some part of our sport. We have requested the resumption of shows under the following strict conditions:

Stable yards would have no cloven-hoofed animals within the immediate vicinity. The local veterinarian would give a permit to this effect. Permits would have to be obtained for each horse travelling to shows, provided that no stops were made on the journey between the stables and the equestrian centre.

The Equestrian Centres would have to be permanent establishments and also have to receive permits from local veterinarians that all required measures were taken, i.e. mats, spraying wheels of each lorry, etc.

The Showjumpers Club recognises that while the cessation of trade is hitting our members hard, the continued restriction of our sport would lead to severe financial problems with no realistic sign of any achievable compensation. The running of restricted and controlled events would greatly alleviate the pressures on our riders.

THE IRISH PONY CLUB

The Irish Pony Club Hunter Trial Championship due to take place at Coolmeen, Ballyhale, Co. Kilkenny, on Saturday 21st April, has been cancelled. In the aftermath of to-days confirmation of Foot & Mouth Disease in Ireland, it is crucial that our members adhere strictly to all guidelines laid down by the Minister for Agriculture.

There shall be absolutely no gathering of members for meetings, rallies, training (including swimming and running), etc. Our support for the farming community and the overall National situation is wholehearted and absolute.
