New Pony Club Chief Executive

Sian Thomas BA , has been appointed as Chief Executive of The Pony Club.

Ms. Thomas brings a wealth of commercial experience to Britain’s third largest youth organisation, her career to date having included publishing and retailing in a range of management, marketing and operational roles. A co-founder in 1986 of venture-capital backed Headline Book Publishing (now Hodder Headline, a subsidiary of W H Smith Plc), and founder marketing director in 1997 of Tim Waterstone’s Daisy & Tom children’s department` stores, Sian is herself a former Pony Club Member (Swansea) and currently has 5 horses at her home near Moreton-in-Marsh. She is the first woman to be appointed to the role since The Pony Club was founded in 1929.

The Chairman of The Pony Club, Lt. Col. Gordon Wesley (Retd.) said of the appointment “We are delighted that we have attracted a person of Sian’s calibre and we are sure that her extensive experience will be of huge benefit to The Pony Club.”

Sian Thomas said “It is a rare privilege to be given the opportunity to guide the management and development of an organisation such as The Pony Club. Even during my commercial career, in which I consider myself to have been exceedingly fortunate to have had the opportunities I have had, my ambitions have constantly returned to working with The Pony Club in one role or another. I am really looking forward to the challenge, and to working alongside volunteers who care as passionately as I, myself, about what they do.”

Ms. Thomas takes up her post at The Pony Club’s Headquarters at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire on 27th February 2003.
