WORLD
CUP DRESSAGE FINAL
The
World Cup Dressage Final will be held from 27 to 30 March 2003
in Göteborg (SWE). It is the 6th time that the Final is organised
in Göteborg. Last time was in 1998 and the Final was won
by a home rider Louise Nathhorst on Walk on Top.
Seven
competitions are scheduled during the four days of the Göteborg
Horse Show, including the FEI World Cup Dressage Final, a qualifier
of the FEI World Cup Jumping and one of the FEI World Cup Driving.

Olympic
champion Anky van Grunsven, leader of the current World Cup standings
of the Western European League after the San Patrignano qualifier,
will not be able to participate in the Final further to an accident
which occurred on 17 January at her home stables. She fell off
her horse Gestion Joker during a training session and broke her
upper leg. She will not be able to compete for the next two or
three months.

The
number of participants in the Final will increase from 14 to 18
riders and for the first time the Kür will be split into
a big final and a small final. The best 12 riders from the Grand
Prix will participate in the big Final. The Grand Prix will be
a qualifying competition only and will not count towards the final
result. The Kür will decide on the World Cup Champion’s
title. Also for the first time, there will be seven judges, as
in main championships.
Situated
in the centre of Göteborg, the Scandinavium arena has a total
capacity of 12.000 spectators. The Göteborg Horse Show is
hosted for the 27th time in the Scandinavium and has an audience
of about 60.000 – 70.000 spectators every year. It is held
in conjunction with the EuroHorse Fair, which takes place just
next to the arena in the Swedish Exhibition Centre.

GANDINI WORLD JUMPING RIDERS RANKINGS
There
is no big changes in the Top Ten of the FEI Gandini Jumping Riders’
World Rankings lists including events starting from 1 February
2002 to 31 January 2003. Ludger Beerbaum still firmly leads the
rankings with 3604 points ahead of Rodrigo Pessoa. Markus Fuchs
moved up from 5th to 3rd place. Fuchs earned 190 points in Leipzig
where he won the qualifying competition and the World Cup. He
earned another 80 points in Zurich where he placed 4th in the
Grand Prix.
The
first Lady Rider is again Leslie Howard who moved up from 13th
to 12th position.
FEI
BCM WORLD DRESSAGE RIDERS RANKINGS
The
only Dressage event of January, CDI-W San Patrignano (ITA), did
not lead to any change in the Top Ten. Ulla Salzgeber is still
Number 1, followed by Nadine Capellmann and Lisa Wilcox. The winner
of San Patrignano, Monica Teodorescu, moved up from 17th to 15th
place.

FEI
WORLD CUP DRIVING ON TELEVISION
The
FEI’s Indoor World Cup Driving Series will be broadcast internationally
across Europe and Asia from 5 February 2003. CNBC Sports and ESPN
Star Sports will broadcast eight competitions including the final
from the 2002/3 Driving Series.
The
exciting new series, produced by FEI TV Consultant MBPtv (Producers
of the successful FEI World Cup Jumping and Samsung Nations Cup
Series), will be broadcast in a thirty-minute format.
The
series presents a highlights package of fast-moving and thrilling
event footage, interlaced with exclusive interviews and features
with leading personalities from the Driving world. Each programme
is presented ‘as live’ from a leading European venue
and introduces this exciting sport to television with a modern,
dynamic combination of ‘live’ footage, unique 3D course
graphics, clear and concise explanations of the rules and fantastic
slow-motion replays.

DATES
OF EUROPEAN REINING CHAMPIONSHIP
The
final dates of the 1st European Reining Championship were confirmed
from 28 to 30 August 2003. The Championship will take place in
Reggio Emilia (ITA) in conjunction with the European Championship
of the American Quarter Horses.

TOP DRIVER AWARD WINNERS
FEI
Singles Top Driver Award
Carina
Ekenberg (SWE), following participation in four of the ten Top
Driver Award events, accumulated 67 points to become the overall
winner. Ninety-one competitors received points during the series.
FEI
Pairs Top Driver Award
Ladislav
Jirgala (CZE), following participation in three of the twelve
Top Driver Award events, accumulated 40 points to become the overall
winner. One-hundred and nine competitors received points during
the series.
FEI
Four-in-Hand Top Driver Award
Christoph
Sandmann (GER), following participation at five of the fourteen
Top Driver Award events, accumulated 72 points to become the overall
winner. Sandmann obtained this award once previously in 1994.
Seventy-six competitors received points during the series.
CHANGE
OF DATE FOR FEI DRESSAGE COURSE
Please
note that the dates of the FEI Course for National, Candidate
International and International Judges in Jozefin (POL) have been
modified. It will take place from 8 through 10 May 2003, instead
of 3 and 4 May 2003 as previously announced. The course is open
to the NFs from Groups I, II and III and the fee is EUR 75. Application
must be sent to Dr Wojcieh Markowski by fax (48.81) 532 04 13

by 1 March 2003.
THIS
WEEK-END: BORDEAUX CSI-W CAI-W
The
International Jumping Bordeaux will welcome many of the world’s
best Jumping riders for the 10th qualifier of the FEI World Cup
Jumping, among which the leader of the current Western European
standings Rodrigo Pessoa.
After
the success of last year’s edition, the Jumping International
de Bordeaux will host the FEI World Cup Driving competition for
the second time. The winner of last year’s competition in
Bordeaux and current leader of the standings, Germany’s Michael
Freund, will compete again in the 6th leg of the FEI Driving Indoor
series.

IN
MEMORIAM
Mr
Knut Enger (NOR), International Judge in Jumping, suddenly passed
away on 23 January 2003. Mr Enger greatly contributed to the Norwegian
Equestrian Federation as a judge and member of the NF’s Rule
Committee and Jumping Judge Committee.
