Qualify for British Open
Organisers
Grandstand Event Management Ltd today announced the top twelve British
Riders that have qualified for invitations to the British Open Show
Jumping Championships 2003 at Hallam FM Arena, Sheffield, (24th
to 27th April).
Taken
from the BSJA rankings list as at 31st December 2002, Robert Smith,
Michael and John Whitaker, Tim Stockdale, Richard Davenport, Andrew
Davies, Robert Whitaker, Di Lampard, William Funnell, Scott Smith,
John Renwick and Mark Armstrong are to join the fifteen invited
foreign riders to compete for over £150,000 prize money.
The
British Open Show Jumping Championships is the largest indoor international
show jumping event to be launched in England for 30 years. It will
not only host six International points classes which culminate in
Sunday evening's final but will include cash classes each day including
The British Open Puissance on Saturday evening.

The
British Open is run under a revolutionary new format, which will
enable the aforementioned riders to compete for points that will
determine the British Open Champion 2003.
In PREMIUM category classes, the first placed rider will receive
70 points reducing by two points down to twelve for the rider in
30th place.
In the SECONDARY category classes, the first placed rider will receive
35 points reducing by one point down to six for the rider in 30th
place.
The top twenty points scorers after the six qualifying points classes
will be eligible to compete in the Championship class on Sunday
evening with the highest points scorer going last in the first round.
Designed to produce an overall winner of the coveted British Open
Championship title, the final class will have a bonus of 240 points
for the winner.
Prize money will be distributed from first to thirtieth place based
on the total number of points achieved throughout the show.

British riders who are outside the top 12 will be given the opportunity
to gain invaluable experience and sample the atmosphere of competing
at a top class indoor International show in a number of additional
competitions to take place throughout the week. These will take
the total prize money at the event to over £160,000. Classes
include the British Young Riders Show Jumping Classic featuring
the top twenty ranked young riders, and the inaugural British Home
International Challenge to be contested by teams of four invited
riders each, representing England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.
Interspersing
the top class show jumping, the show will also host four exciting
displays taking place during both afternoon and evening performances
each day.
Visitors
to the British Open will also be able to browse through the extensive
selection of trade stands, which will make for a great day out for
all the family.
