horse European Eventing Championships 2003

The European Eventing Championships held at Punchestown this year finished with six Irish Sport Horses in the top twenty. Highest placed of these was Shear L’Eau (ISH) ridden by Leslie Law (GBR) to take fourth place in the final individual results. Moonman (ISH) and William Fox-Pitt (GBR) took eighth while Just Beauty Queen (ISH) and Susan Shortt (IRL) came eleventh. Mark Kyle (IRL) rode Drunken Disorderly (ISH) to finish seventeenth, Trumpet Pierre (ISH) ridden by Heinz Wherli (SUI) finished nineteenth and behind him in twentieth place was Dunrath Hill (ISH) ridden by Trevor Smith (IRL).

Great Britain won the team event with Shear L’Eau (ISH) ridden by Leslie Law and Moonman (ISH) ridden by William Fox Pitt making up half of their successful team. Ireland landed in fourth place with two Irish Sport Horses, Just Beauty Queen and Don’t Step Back ridden by Susan Shortt and Patricia Donegan
respectively on the team.

In Showjumping Ado Annie (ISH) won the $25,000 World Cup Qualifying Grand Prix at San Juan Capistrano, California on September 12th. Laughtons Lass (ISH) and Lt. Shane Carey (IRL) were on form in Spain over the weekend, winning both Saturdays Haagen Dazs class and Sundays Radio Barcelona Cadena Ser Trophy class on Sunday at the Barcelona CSIO 5*. Ireland finished third overall in the final standings of the Samsung Nations Cup Superleague 2003.

In France, at the Jardy CSI 4* Royal Charmer (ISH) ridden by Markus Fuchs (SUI) came second in Saturdays 1m50 class. Double O Seven (ISH) ridden by V. Dupret (BEL) finished second in the Amazones Marionnaud Columbia GPA 1m35 class on Friday and Calvaro Star (ISH) ridden by Samantha McIntosh (BUL) came
fourth in the Prix PMU 1m40 class on Saturday.
