horse Samsung Nations Cup Superleague Success for Irish Team

The St. Gallen, Switzerland CSIO 5*, from May 29th to June 1st, saw Irelands Nations Cup team win Sundays 200,000 CHF Samsung Nations Cup Superleague class. Following on from last weeks Nations Cup second placing in Rome, Carling King (ISH) and Kevin Babington (IRL) were also on this winning Irish team at St. Gallen. Fellow team members were Coolcorron Cool Diamond (ISH) and Robert Splaine (IRL), Waterford Crystal and Cian O’Connor (IRL) and Luidam ridden by Billy Twomey (IRL).

Coolcorron Cool Diamond (ISH) and Robert Splaine (IRL) also jumped clear in Fridays St Gallen Generali Grand Prix to win the class with Carling King (ISH) and Kevin Babington (IRL) in sixth place and Abbervail Dream (ISH) and Di Lampard (GBR) taking tenth.

Also competing at St. Gallen was Royal Charmer (ISH) ridden by Markus Fuchs (SUI) to win Saturdays Pries des Liebherr Konzerns 1m40 class. This pairing also took second in Thursdays Preis der St. Galler Tagblatt AG 1m45 class and fourth in both Fridays Preis der K+D 1m45 class and Sundays Preis Kanton & Stadt St Gallen 1m45 pair relay.

At the Eindhoven (NED) CSI 1*, Sundays Grand Prix was won by Ballayser Twilight (ISH) who jumped a double clear ridden by V. Voorn (NED).

Last weekend in Germany, the Munich CSI 3* saw Sails Away (ISH) and S. Numminen (FIN) win Thursdays Preis der Fa. Franken Brunnen 1m55 class. Also competing here was A Touch Of Romance (ISH) ridden by K. Raafet el Z (Egy) to come third in Saturdays Championat von Munchen 1m55 class.

Flurry D (ISH) ridden by O. Baldo (ITA) brought some Irish luck to the Napoli, Italy CSI 2* where they won Sundays Grand Prix while For Fun (ISH) and J. Munsterhuis (NED) jumped into second place in the Le Mans (FRA) CSI 1* Grand Prix.

Finally, Irish Ponies were also winning last weekend at the Sansaw Pony Championships where first place went to Aero Flyer and Sara Glynn with Bally Duff Rusty and Emily Llewellyn in third and Tullibards Mac Splash ridden by Benedict Kuhnle taking fifth.

Royal Charmer ~ 1993 Irish Sport Horse by Cavalier (HOLST), bred by Tom Hughes, Cuffesgrange, Co. Kilkenny.

Ballayser Twilight ~ 1989 Irish Sport Horse gelding by Clover Hill (RID), out of Ballynagran Natalie (ISH), by Prince Riza (TB), bred by Betty Parker, Ballynagran Stud, Dunganstown, Co. Wicklow.

Sails Away ~ 1989 Irish Sport Horse gelding by Cruising (ISH), out of Victoria Plum (ISH), by Bahrain (TB), bred by Mary McCann, Hartwell Stud, Kill, Naas, Co. Kildare.

A Touch Of Romance~ 1990 Irish Sport Horse mare by Touch Down (ISH), out of Cal (ISH), bred by Vincent Brennan, Fort Lorenzo, Taylors Hill, Galway.

Flurry D ~ 1991 Irish Sport Horse gelding by Flagmount King (RID), out of Ardboe Betsy (ISH), bred by Mick McGuigan, Killycanavan, Ardboe, Dungannon, Co. Waterford.

For Fun ~ 1995 Irish Sport Horse gelding by Furisto (Hann), out of Stetch Society (ISH), bred by Anne Smith, Ballinboley Lodge, Ballinaboley, Leighlinbridge, Co. Carlow.
