Only Two Horses Qualify for the Jump Off in the $100,000 US Open Jumper Championship

Wellington, FL – March 9, 2003 – The last day of competition for hunters and jumpers in Wellington, Florida was today and all in all it was a very good Winter Equestrian Festival. The competitors will move to Tampa to the fairgrounds for three more weeks of competition to culminate with the Budweiser American Invitational on March 29 in Raymond James Stadium.

The final day saw Beezie Madden and Judgement win the $100,000 Cosequin U.S. Open Jumper Championship over a field of 32 horse and rider combinations. Of the 32, only 2 horses qualified to return for the jump off. Beezie Madden and Judgement returned first and had a clean round with a good pace. Anne Kursinski with The Eros Group’s Eros returned second and was going very quickly and looked to beat the time but unfortunately had the last jump down to score 4 faults. Judgement, a Dutch Warmblood stallion is owned by Iron Spring Farm of Coatesville, PA. In third place was Todd Minikus riding Gardenio, a Hanoverian black gelding, who had only a single time fault in the first round. Gardenio is owned by the YZ Partners.

Small Pony Hunter Champion today was Pony Dot Com owned and ridden by Katherine Newman. While Small/Medium Green Pony Champion was Wellen’s Gold Coin ridden by Molly Sullivan for Tyler Daly.

Children’s Hunter Champion 14 & Under was Playoff ridden by Carolyn Kelly and owned by Scott Stewart. Reserve Champion was Glorious with Amelia McArdle up and also owned by Scott Stewart. In the Children’s Hunter 15- 17 Years, Tuxedo Park with Brittany Spano riding was Champion and Simpatico with Jason Digioacchino was Reserve Champion.

Large Junior Hunter Champion was Saloon with Whitney Roper riding for Hedgerow, Ltd. Reserve Champion was In Sync with Charlie Jayne up for owner Alex R. Jayne.

(Each week runs Wednesday through Sunday beginning at 8:00 AM)

Zada Enterprises, LLC WEF Dressage Classic – March 13 – 16

Tickets to the Winter Equestrian Festival are available by phone at 793-JUMP or at the gate. Admission is free on Wednesdays. Children 12 & under are free all days. Senior admission is $5 every day. Adult admission is $5 on Thursday and Friday, $10 on Saturday, and $15 on Sunday. Parking is free.
