Endurance and Competitive Trail Horses Earn AHASM High-Point Awards

The Arabian Horse AssociationSM (AHASM) recognized 16 Arabian, Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian horses as its 2002 Distance High-Point Award winners. Twelve of these horses earned blue coolers with white piping from Besco for their excellence in competitive trail with seven participating organizations. The coolers were embroidered with the horse's name and the high-point award.

Each competitive trail ride organization submitted an application to become eligible and selected high-point individuals within that organization. Winners had to meet the following criteria: (1) ride a registered Arabian, Half-Arabian or Anglo-Arabian; (2) be current 2002 AHA members; and (3) compete in at least five rides sponsored by that organization.

AHA also worked with the American Endurance Ride Conference to identify high-point horses in the 100 and 50-99 mile categories. Each of the four winners received a navy fleece dress sheet with green piping from Weatherbeeta, donated by AHA Region 9 members George and Sherry McGraw. To highlight the horse's achievement, the coolers were embroidered with AERC and the high-point award.

Because AERC does not track points specifically in the 50-99 mile category, individuals interested in 2003 awards must list their rides and dates on an AHA Endurance Horse High-Point Application Form for 50-99 Miles and send it to AHA by December 31, 2003. For a copy of that form, go to

www.iaha.com/forms/Endurance_Horse_Highpoint_Form_50-99_miles.pdf or call AHA
at (303) 696-4500.

In addition to the Distance High-Point Award program AHA has four additional programs available to distance riders and their horses--the Distance Horse Awards, Horse Achievement Awards, Amateur Achievement Awards and the International Arabian Breeders Sweepstakes. Arabian Horse America also has three programs available to distance riders: the Competitive Distance Program, www.arabianhorseamerica.com/IncentivePrograms/CDPHome.asp, the Frequent Rider Program, www.arabianhorseamerica.com/IncentiveProgramsFRPHome.asp and the Open Incentive Program, www.arabianhorseamerica.com/IncentivePrograms/OEIPHome.asp.

In the Distance Horse Awards program, horses earn plaques and mileage markers for each 500 completed miles at endurance and competitive trail rides.

In the Horse Achievement Awards program, horses earn points by competing and placing in rides, and those points earn plaques, symbols after their registered names and the chance to win a Sundowner trailer as an overall year-end, high-point program award.

Distance riders enrolled in the Amateur Achievement Awards program receive plaques based upon each level they achieve, and the chance to win an MD Barn as an overall year-end, high-point award. Participants may also ride multiple horses.

Horses that are enrolled in the Arabian Breeders Sweepstakes program receive prize money payouts at AHA regional and national championship rides. More than $130,000 is available to distance riding horses each year. For more information on any of these programs, contact AHA at 303-696-4500.

AHASM is a 40,000 member breed association that registers Arabians, Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian horses, administers more than $4 million in prize money annually, produces national events, maintains official event records, recognizes more than 400 Arabian horse shows and distance rides and provides activities and programs that promote Arabian horse breeding and ownership.
