Britons Wake Up To A Farm Fresh Breakfast

Farmers across the country will be celebrating the best of British produce
and inviting people across the country to make a sizzling start to their day
during Farmhouse Breakfast Week next week (January 21-27).

The week-long celebration will be kick-started with a variety of events as
farmers across the country celebrate the great British tradition with
everything from a design-a-sausage competition in East Anglia, right through
to a 'de-stressing' breakfast at the Roman baths in Bath.

NFU President Ben Gill said: "There can be no better way to show the best of
British than a traditional British breakfast.

"The last year has seen our joint farming and rural tourist industry go
through a period of unparalleled pain and suffering.

"This event is a marvellous opportunity to start to rebuild this part of our
industry coming as it does only days after the last County in the country
has achieved foot and mouth free status."

The nation is being encouraged to make time for a breakfast as stressed out
workers resort to snacking on the run. Increasing numbers of people are
deserting the breakfast table in favour of grabbing junk food or
confectionery on their
way to work with more than half of working Britons skipping breakfast
altogether.

Experts warn by skipping breakfast people are more likely to feel stressed
and lethargic and are generally fatter than those start the day with a
hearty breakfast. Those who snack on junk food for breakfast risk damaging
their physical health and mental well-being not to mention their pockets.

Farmhouse Breakfast Week is being organised by the Home Grown Cereals
Authority supported by the National Farmers' Union, and also Food from
Britain, the Meat and Livestock Commission and the Women's Food and Farming
Union. A website has full details of all events planned -
