Vote For Equestrian Of The Year

USA Equestrian members are invited to participate in the selection of the 2002 USA Equestrian of the Year. All 2002 and 2003 members, visit http://www.equestrian.org/equestrianoftheyear/2002/index.asp and cast your ballot for one of the eight Equestrians of Honor who are the finalists for this distinguished award. The voting will close Wednesday, January 8.

David O'Connor (Eventing) and Peter Wylde (Jumping) will be representing the Olympic disciplines as co-winners of the William C. Steinkraus Trophy; in the international non-Olympic disciplines vying for the Becky Grand Hart Trophy, Fred Merriam (Driving) is the winner; the Bill Robinson Trophy, awarded to an equestrian competing in harness or driving in non-international competition, is awarded to Mary Gaylord McClean (Saddlebred/Hackney/Roadster); the Emerson Burr Trophy for outstanding annual achievement in hunter classes, in any breed, over fences goes to Peter Pletcher Hunter); Robin Ratliff (Paso Fino) is the recipient of the C.J. "June" Cronan, Jr. Trophy awarded in performance or pleasure under saddle; the Barbara Worth Oakford Trophy for outstanding annual achievement in non-reining Western competition goes to Eitan Beth-Halachamy (Morgan); and the Norman K. Dunn Trophy, a new award for 2002, awarded to those competing in-hand or at halter, goes to Kenneth Wheeler (Hunter Breeding).

The 2002 USA Equestrian of the Year will be announced Friday, January 17, at the Pegasus Dinner held during the USA Equestrian Annual Meeting at the Marriott Griffin Gate in Lexington, KY.

 

USA Equestrian Inc., as the National Equestrian Federation of the U.S., is the regulatory body for the Olympic and World Championship sports of dressage, driving, endurance, eventing, reining, show jumping, and vaulting, as well as 19 other breeds and disciplines of equestrian competition. As
the country's largest multi-breed organization, the Federation has over 80,000 members and recognizes more than 2,800 competitions nationwide each year. It governs all aspects of competition, including educating and licensing all judges, stewards, and technical delegates who officiate at these shows.
