There

be held at Addington Manor on 10th and 11th November.
International
riders, trainers and judges will be passing on their equestrian
expertise at the world’s first Open Eventing Forum, which is
being staged in Britain. Support for this forum has been received
from Spillers, Shearwater Insurance, British Eventing and PERA.
The
Spillers Response Open Eventing Forum takes place at Addington Equestrian
Centre, Buckinghamshire, on Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th November,
2003 and promises to be an exciting, unique, thought-provoking and
informative two days.
The
purpose of the Forum is to share training techniques and ideas,
so that everyone can improve or hone their riding and training skills.
As a result rider and horse safety will be enhanced.
The
impressive list of speakers at the forum includes:
· British Eventing’s World Class Performance Manager
Yogi Breisner
· Six-times Badminton winner and British Eventing Director
Lucinda Green
· Christoph Hess of the German Equestrian Federation and
German Equestrian Olympic Committee
· Commandant John Ledingham, Ireland’s Olympic and World
Championship show jumping rider and three-times winner of the Hickstead
Derby
· Gill Watson, FBHS, who won Burghley Horse Trials and has
successfully trained Britain’s Junior and Young Rider teams
since the early 1980s,
· Jan Jonsson, Sweden’s Performance Director for Equestrian
Disciplines and a former individual bronze medallist.
· A panel of behind-the-scenes experts in producing the fit
event horse, comprising Ruth Bishop, Technical Director of SPILLERS,
Dr David Marlin of the Animal Health Trust, Dr Colin Roberts from
the University of Cambridge Vet School, Jenny Hall, British Eventing
Team vet and Anna Johnson, leading physiotherapist.
The
initiative is the brainchild of Olympic trainer John Bowen and FEI
Eventing Official Jean Mitchell MBE.
“The
overall objective is to better prepare and educate both horse and
rider through correct training” explained John Bowen. “Through
demonstration and discussion we intend to compare different training
and riding techniques, highlight the physiological effects of each
of the training methods and, through discussion with vets and physiotherapists,
show the relevance of this to the modern event horse."
“Eventing has grown enormously in popularity and the demands
upon horse and rider are tremendous. All competitors need to have
a sound and thorough training before tackling the demands of this
sport. We hope that the forum will show that there is more than
one route to success and highlight the importance of sound, progressive
and safe training” added John.
An
international trainer accredited with both British Eventing and
British Dressage, John will also be one of the speakers. He uses
the ‘deep and round’ technique within his training and
will discuss this method, outlining the benefits he has found and
pointing out the pitfalls that can result from incorrect use of
this technique.
As
well as learning from international trainers and riders, those attending
the forum can discover what the judges are looking for. Christoph
Hess is an International Judge in Dressage and Eventing while Jean
Mitchell is an FEI Official Judge in Eventing and an FEI Candidate
International Dressage Judge. They will give an invaluable insight
into the judge’s mindset.
The
panel of behind-the-scenes experts has convened by SPILLERS, in
recognition of the increasing role of sport science in producing
a fit event horse. Each panellist will speak on the importance of
their particular area of expertise in horse performance, followed
by a panel discussion Each of the speakers Ruth Bishop, Jenny Hall,
Dr Colin Roberts, Anna Johnson and Dr. David Marlin, have extensive
home and international experience in their specialist subjects.
The emphasis on the first day will be on flat work training, while
the speakers on the second day will concentrate on jumping training.
There
is to be a dinner on the Monday evening when the guest speaker will
be Giuseppe Della Chiesa, member of the FEI Three Day Event Committee
and the FEI Technical Advisor for Eventing in Athens.
