New Jersey Rider Tops a Field of 67 Competitors at Marshall & Sterling League National Indoor Finals

WORCESTER, MA (September 22, 2003)--Leigh Healey of Mount Holly, New Jersey, claimed top honors in the HBO Junior Medal at the Marshall & Sterling League National Indoor Finals. A total of 67 riders were invited to compete at Worcester's Centrum Centre, the League's new indoor venue in Worcester, Massachusetts.

After the fist two rounds, Healey topped the field with an average score of 90.76. There was a tie for second place - Maria Schaub and Jamie Duva both posted an average score of 87.01. Ruth Drumm posted an average score of 86.09 after the second round, putting her in third place.

The top four riders were called back to test and Healey held on to her lead position after the testing. Healey rode her own horse, Amigo, in the competition. She trains with Frank Madden of Beacon Hill Show Stables, Colts Neck, New Jersey.

Maria Schaub of Holmdel, New Jersey, finished in second place. Schaub also trains with Beacon Hill Show Stables. Her mount for the competition was, Whismey, owned by Katelyn Denby of Chatham, Massachusetts.

Third place went to Ruth Drumm of Lenox Dale, Massachusetts. Drumm trains with Golden Hill Farm. She rode Thunderbay, owned by Maureen Garrity of Lenox Dale.

Fourth place in the competition went to Jamie Duva of Mendhan, New Jersey. Duva rode Co Star, owned by Sagamore Farm. Duva's trainer is Frank Madden of Beacon Hill Show Stables.

The HBO Junior Medal is sponsored by Home Box Office (HBO), America's leading premium television network. The Marshall & Sterling League introduced the HBO Junior Medal in January of this year. The class has been very popular at League member horse shows across the country. Hundreds of riders worked very hard all year to earn points to qualify for the Finals. The 67 riders who competed in Worcester represented the top junior equitation riders in the country.
