horse Marshall & Sterling League Crowns National Champions at Indoor Finals

WORCESTER, MA (September 19, 2003)--Kimberly Jungherr of Amesbury, Massachusetts, rode Roscoe to victory in the $7,500 Adult Jumper National Championship at the Marshall & Sterling League National Indoor Finals. Jungherr bested a field of 30 horse and rider pairs, sealing her victory with a very fast jump-off time of 29.38 seconds. Only fractions of a second behind, for second place, was Zara Davies of Annville, Pennsylvania, and her mount Waiting for Godot. Third place went to John Appley of Tarpon Springs, Florida, aboard Cherry Z.

Twelve horse and rider pairs completed the first round course fault-free to qualify to ride over the shortened jump-off course. Jungherr also earned the ninth place award aboard her second mount, Curious George.

In Hunter competition, four national hunter championship awards, as well as the Grand Hunter Champion Award, and the Leading Hunter Rider Award were presented. The first phase of hunter competition began on Wednesday, September 17 and concluded on Thursday, September 18.

After earning first and second place awards in Wednesday's competition, My Way continued to deliver a winning performance to capture the $10,000 Regular Working Hunter National Championship Award with rider Kristi McCormack of Cape May Courthouse, New Jersey, at the reins. My Way is owned by Kacey McCann of Palmyra, Pennsylvania.

The $10,000 Green Working Hunter Championship Award went to Once and Again owned by Meredith Lipke of Buffalo, New York. In the first day of competition, Jennifer Alfano rode Once and Again to second place in the $2,000 Green Working Hunter class, and in Thursday's competition Once and Again delivered another superb performance to win the championship.

The $10,000 Pre-Green Hunter Championship Award went to Gandolf owned by Helen Lenehan of Buffalo, New York, and ridden by Jennifer Alfano of Buffalo, New York.

The $8,000 Green Conformation Hunter Championship was awarded to Ticket To Ride owned by Nicole Glass of New York, New York, and ridden by Katie Milton of Locust Valley, New York.

The Grand Hunter Champion Award went to Ticket To Ride owned by Nicole Glass and ridden by Katie Milton.

The Leading Hunter Rider Award went to Jennifer Alfano of Buffalo, New York.
