British
Dressage WEG Team Announced
|
Following the CDI at Aarhus in Denmark, the selectors have announced
the dressage riders who will represent Great Britain at the World
Equestrian Games, to be held at Jerez, Spain from 11th - 22nd September
2002. They will be: -
Richard
Davison (Staffordshire), riding Ballaseyr Stables' 16.3hh bay mare
Ballaseyr Royale.
Emile Faurie (Oxfordshire), riding Dr W Bechtolsheimer's 16.2hh
chestnut gelding Insterburg.
Laura Richardson (Oxfordshire) riding Mrs V Richardson's 16.3hh
dark brown stallion, Millenium .
Peter Storr, (Oxfordshire), riding Mrs M Heintz's 16.1hh chestnut
stallion Gambrinus.
Non
travelling reserves:

The
team combines considerable experience and fresh talent, with all
four riders being members of the World Class Performance Plan. Richard
Davison has represented Great Britain at two Olympic Games, three
European Championships and one previous World Equestrian Games.
However, he is not the only experienced member of the 2002 team.
Emile Faurie was part of the British Olympic team in 1992 and 2000,
he has taken part in three European Championships, and this will
be his third appearance as a member of a World Equestrian Games
team.
Peter
Storr and Gambrinus are the current British Dressage National Champions,
retaining their title for the second consecutive year, and were
the reserve combination for the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Peter competed
at the European Championships in 2001 and recently scored over 73%
at Moscow CDI.
The
youngest member of the team is 26 year old Laura Richardson. Laura
was also a member of the European Championship team that finished
sixth at Verden in 2001, and she won the prestigious Raymond Brooks-Ward
trophy in 2001 for the most promising young rider in an equestrian
Olympic discipline.
The
Dressage Competition
The Grand Prix will be split into two sections, the first running
on Wednesday 11 September and the second on Thursday 12. The three
highest scores from each country will count towards the team position.
Riders from the top five teams and the top 25 individuals will go
forward to ride in the Grand Prix Special to be held on Friday 13th
September. The combined scores of the Grand Prix and Grand Prix
Special will decide the team medals.
To
decide the individual medals the scores from the Grand Prix and
the Grand Prix Special are combined and the top 15 compete in the
Grand Prix Kür on Sunday 15 September. No more than three riders
per country may compete in the Grand Prix Kür.
The
Preparation
The British Team will be riding in the Grand Prix at Hickstead CDIO,
21 - 25 August, as preparation for the Games. From 1 September the
team will take up residence at Richard Davison's yard in Staffordshire
for a week of intensive training. The horses will fly to Jerez from
East Midlands Airport and the riders from London.
During
the World Equestrian Games the British Dressage horses will be transported
in luxury. Ketterer are driving one of their brand new horseboxes
down to Jerez loaded with team supplies, and will be on hand to
take horses to and from the airport, stabling and competition.
