U.S. Participants Fare Well At Aachen

The U.S. had participants in dressage, driving and show jumping at the World Equestrian Festival in Aachen, Germany, June 25-30, 2002.

Tucker Johnson placed well in the CAIO - Four-In-Hand Driving Competitions beginning with two first place finishes in the Dressage Phase - Freestyle to music and the Dressage Phase - FEI Dressage Test #6 and going on to receive a seventh in the Obstacle Phase - Top Score Competition, a second in the Obstacle Phase - Time Competition, a 12th place finish in the Marathon Competition and a ninth place finish in the Obstacle Driving Competition with one drive off. Johnson placed fifth in the Individual Classification of the Combined Driving competition and finished seventh along with drivers Chester Weber and James Fairclough in the team competition.

In the CDIO Dressage Competitions, Lisa Wilcox had a fourth place in the Grand Prix Freestyle to Music with Relevant (Rubinstein I-Havanna), a 10-year-old, Oldenburg stallion, and a second place finish in the Prix St. Georges and a third place in Intermediate I, riding Royal Diamond (Rubinstein x Elektia V, by Inschallah), an eight-year-old, Oldenburg stallion. The pairing of Wilcox and Relevant also finished in 12th position in the Grand Prix CDIO and ended up 11th in the Grand Prix Special CDIO. Wilcox also grabbed the third spot in the Freestyle to Music, Intermediate I Level, with Royal Diamond. Wilcox placed second in the special trophy
ranking for the Best Dressage Women riders of the entire event, presented by the Liselott Schindling Foundation for the Promotion of Dressage Riding Sport.

Guenter Seidel was 13th in the Prix St. Georges and 13th in the Intermediate I, aboard Metropolitan (Olympic Ferro x Gea), an eight-year-old, Dutch Warmblood gelding. Seidel also piloted Nikolaus 7 (Weinberg x Elise), a 13-year-old Westphalian gelding to a 13th place finish in the Grand Prix CDIO, an eighth place finish in he Grand Prix Special CDIO and an eighth place in the Grand Prix Freestyle to Music. The combination of Wilcox, Seidel and Christine Traurig, who was paired with Etienne (Ehrentusch x Andora) , a 14-year-old, Westphalian gelding, rode to the fourth spot in the team competition.

Twenty-three-year-old, Clare Bronfman, recent winner of the Grand Prix of Rome, finished 27th in the Grand Prix of Aachen and was the only individual jumper rider representing the US this year at Aachen.
