Names Reining Squad for 2002 World Equestrian Games

Gladstone, NJ—June 27, 2002—The United States Equestrian
Team (USET) has named the squad of four riders plus one alternate
for the Reining World Championships that will be contested at
the 2002 World Equestrian Games in Jerez, Spain this September.
Tom McCutcheon of Pilot Point, TX will ride Conquistador Whiz
owned by George Shifrin of Aspen Colorado. Joining Tom is his
brother Scott McCutcheon of Whitesboro, TX, who will ride Inwhizable,
owned by Inwhizable Partners of Whitesboro, TX. Shawn Flarida
of Springfield, OH will compete on San Jo Freckles owned by Mike
Harper of Morrow, OH, and Craig Schmersal of Menifee, CA, will
ride Tidal Wave Jack owned by the BS Syndicate of Menifee, CA.
The team alternate is Craig Johnson of Gainesville, TX, and his
equine partner Smokin Chic Olena who is owned by Mary Susan Mason
of Fairmont, WV.
The top twenty riders from the Intervet/USET Semi-Finals for the
USET Reining Championship held during the National Reining Horse
Association (NRHA) Derby qualified to compete in the final Selection
Trial at Gladstone. The riders were named to the team after finishing
as the top placed riders in the $75,000 USET Reining Championship,
presented by Bayer, held at the Bayer/USET Festival of Champions,
presented by State Line Tack held at the USET Olympic Training
Facility in Gladstone, NJ.
The United States Equestrian Team is a non-profit organization
that selects, trains, equips and finances equestrians of the highest
possible standard to represent our country in major international
competition, including the Olympic Games and the World Championships.
